Gate 252.

Well it was one of those games when you look to see who the officials are and your heart sinks. Oh no not that ref he is so officious and appears to give everything against us. And so it was but we didn’t do ourselves any favours.

Town started well with Steve Baldwin, threading the ball through for Trevor Paul to pull just wide. At the other end the new keeper from Cheshunt Martin Peat started nervously dropping the ball. Yikes and this was followed by a miss-kick out. Rothwell strikers were bearing down on the defence and the Centre half was found wanting for pace. Phew lucky there. Steve Baldwin tackling back well. On 28 minutes ETFC helped Rothwell to score with the new keeper failing to catch the ball with a player coming in but not touching him. 0 – 1. Paul Campbell made a reckless foul and received a yellow card for his troubles. Rothwell got a free-kick, launched a vicious shot which Peat saved well. On 34 minutes ETFC threw caution to the wind and went on the attack shot after shot reined in on tom Smith in goal, Campbell, Paul and finally Steve Velandia driving the ball home just inside the post. 1 – 1. Tom Smith in goal collided with one of his own players and saw stars for a while.

Second half and Trevor Paul tried to walk the ball into the net but was stopped by the keeper with a foot save block. Brian Hammatt Threaded a lovely ball through for Matty Negus, but keeper blocked before Matty could get to it. Bryan Hammatt was up-ended but was not given the foul, on protesting he was booked. So inconsistent ref. A Bryan Hammatt shot saved. Bryan Hammatt offside. Lee Smith had two shots wide. Matty Negus shot to the keeper. Adam Gant tackling back crucially well. Again Town lost for pace against attacker. Penalty. From not looking likely to score Rothwell earn the simplest of penalty goals past Peat 1 - 2. Johnny Morgan on for Paul Campbell. Town lost and Town fans are not yet convinced the new Keeper is all that wonderful. But no role in any club is ring fenced and maybe Chopper needed to realise that.

2006 - 3 games and 1 point. It’s a funny ol game saint.

A good summation of the match however you omit to mention the "offside" flag by the lino when there was the goalie and a Rothwell player on the goal line.

Jum Chandler sent off because he pointed out the lino's error to him.

What was that all about?

My point exactly on another thread.

The Lino cost us the game....not the Ref.

However, BOTH were a total disgrace and ruined the flow of the game. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/boxing.gif" alt="" />

Probaly the colourful language he used first to the lino & then the ref may have contributed to the red card!

Excactly. The ref is ther to control the game. If players and management use foul and abusive language then they deserve to get sent off. Yes, by all means question the officials and afterwards we are all well within our rights to have opinions but to just chuck insults is not good enough. I am fed up with certain people on our bench screaming expletives all the time and the same with some of our fans. Now that the spring is approaching, I want to start brining my girls again but just lately, this would not be possible.

I was standing at the Town end for the first goal. When the up and under went up, Colin D said 'Oh dear!' The ball was then palmed into the net by Chopper's understudy. Good news for Colin was that he had the winning 'goalden goal' ticket.

Graham Hall was very lucky not to have been sent off in the first half for a 'pull back' on their number 10 when he was the last line of defence.

Second half - players continued to shout and swear at the officials for absolutely everything, even calling for offside decisions when at least three players were behind them, two of whom were team mates!

Second goal was down to Graham Hall for heading the ball back to the 'keeper rather than heading it back up the park. It was a stone wall penalty for those who were at the Town end and who thought the ref' may have got it wrong.

Two games - two defeats. Not a crisis but the management have to get the team selection right. Three points is a must next Saturday.

As for Chopper - Must be back for Saturday as his understudy just isn't good enough for this league.
