-Vs- Salisbury City

Your fans were right in their predictions not to take Salisbury for granted.

As a Salisbury fan didn't make the game myself but heard that the first half was pretty even but we were the better side in the second half.

Good luck for the rest of your season.

Salibury were not a bad side and ultimately deserved the win. They kept the defending simple not that they had much to do - can't remember more than a handful of times we tested their keeper. Good support and I'm sure they will continue to do well in the Southern league.

Poor crowd today but after that display and Southend back at the top with an entertaining 4-1 win I can't see many people being attracted to the Lane.

A number of players need to take a look at themselves after that game today. It was gutting watching a side who didn't seem to have a single player who wanted to grab the game and start to deal with it.

I wasn't to sure with the line up where we just didn't seem to have any real width. Duffers playing at left back and not taking the game to them seemed crazy. We then sub Macca at half time and bring Sterling on who is a natural left back. Only in the last 15 minutes did Duffers start to use the wings. JK was hardly brought into the game and the midfiled may as well have stayed in the dressing room. Most impressive players today were Mcghee and Wardy IMHO.

It was one of those games were we needed direction from the bench and from our captain but it never came so we continued to have no idea's, had no width and just overstruck the ball time after time.

Well done Salisbury hope you get a good draw in the next round. As for Canvey we really missed some leadership - someone to role up the sleeves and start bolocking people. We missed players who can turn a game - Keeling and Boylan, Hopefully Jeff won't mince his words and let the players know what a load of crap that was today.

Did we play 4-4-2? If so who played on the left of Midfield where Clarke/Keeling/Duffy should be?

Looking at the line-up I thought 4-4-2 would've been the norm, but seeing as we only had one left sided player in the starting XI it kind of threw me a bit.

4-4-2

Duffers at left back but didn't really push forward into midfield and beyond.

No one really covered mid left although I suppose it was Noto with Mints and Sedge playing more central and JK on the right. Ibe and Hallett up front.

I thought Duffers might start the game instead of Clarke but link with JK or run the line and provide some width with crosses - but he didn't. At half time Mcghee was subbed for Sterling who is a natural left back so why start with Duffers there in the first place?

We just didn't seem to make any impact up front or in midfield and I felt the formation didn't seem balanced.

Macca was the only one making anything vocal in the first half. As stated, he was substituted and the in second half we didnt seem to have any real direction from anyone.

We do seem to withdraw from any meaning in our play after say ten minutes of the opening and become a very untidy outfit.

Have got to agree that some really need to look at their work rate and basic football skills, our passing was abysmal...

Not impessed!!

That sounds appalling! Since when has Mario Noto been a left-sided player?

Why did Bimson not play at Left-back? Is he STILL injured? I feel Sterling is better in the centre rather than on the left, but at least he is comfortable playing on the left.

Rest Keeling and Clarke by all means, but at least replace them with someone that can play in their position naturally...E.g. Duffy.

McGhee must be injured for him to have come off at half-time.

I feel, for this match, the Management got it wrong from the beginning. Maybe but you don't pay £11.50 to watch your players prance around like complete [****!!****]!! You give your all in every game no matter what the competition is!!

I thought we had learnt the lesson from Burnham but clearly we haven't. Let's show a little fire in our bellies. Perhaps if the players do that then maybe the crowd will respond. It's all very well the players saying get behind the team but if the effort is not there on the pitch then why should the fans make the effort!!!

I've seen this all before and I quite frankly I don't want to see this [****!!****] again. I'm going for a lay down to calm down!!

Everything aside - this defeat isn't going to help the club at all. Early exits from all the cup competitions means no real money going into the coffers. Thats obviously going to have a knock on effect.

I personally hope we push for a top 10 spot and get involved in the LDV next season but I can't see many of the fickled fans on the island being drawn to the Lane when our season is "for them" all but over........and yes I appreciate that for "us" consolidation this year was important and we seem to be on track for that - just my thoughts.

Could not go today. Was it really as bad as it appears to have been?

Were there any positives to come out of this game at all?

The above are my opinions and others may have seen it differently. I wouldn't say that the players didn't try - but those that did played as individuals. Some players never really got involved in the game. We didn't seem to have any width and created numerous problems for ourselves with little movement off the ball and some woeful passing.

However, credit to Salisbury who closed us down, played it simple and always gave their own players someone to pass to. Personally I think they created more chances but didn't look that great in front of goal - but they did take the one real chance they had (believe it was a mistake from Wardy who otherwise had a very good game)

Canvey just had a bit of a Burnham - didn't look like scoring, didn't really create anything, no one seemed to get to grips with the game and take control.

"were there any positives at all?" - IMHO - Not really apart from the fact we don't have to go to Salisbury on a Tuesday night

All in all a poor day - but we have to move on and get our game plan and players right for the clash at Gravesend.
