That's our season over then

Recommended Posts

Right, I havent posted on this for god knows how long and I can now say our performance has prevoked me into commenting on how things are going. What is going on? I can sort of forgive that ridiculous own goal by Bowry, but the penalty and the miss kick by Holloway is unforgivable. Coleman doesn't deserve to be on the pitch let alone the team. The only person I can say has shown any effort. I am truly shocked at our performance and if it is true about Daish wanting a pay rise all I can say to that is all he deserves to get the sack because he hasnt don't anything that I would say has helped us. I can truthfuly say he has ruined what we had of a reputation, it may not have been much but it was something.

You all moan about Liam Daish. Ok our performance today was terrible but when we play our game I honestly think we are capable of reaching the Play-Offs.

We have some good players, but we do need a few more brought especially another striker to help McDonald. We also need another good centre back to help Ross Smith. The defence is the key to any squad. Once we have our defence sorted and another striker we have a good team.

Give Liam a break and a chance to boost the confidence back into some of the players for the Canvey game and hopefully we can get back to winning ways.

Bowry didn't really stand a chance with the first goal so should not be blamed. Craig made a decent stop but the ball fell to a 'Wood player and it went in off Bobby's leg as he was virtually on the ground.

The second goal came as a result of Paul McCarthy being beaten for speed and he gave away the penalty and was booked. Their front men were just too fast for a fairly pedestrian Fleet defence most of the afternoon.

The third goal was a farce. Craig was guilty of probably the worse air kick you are ever likely to see. The 'Wood player shot into an empty goal.

At Dagenham the team only started to play ( when exactly was our first shot on target then and today?) after we went behind. Today we were being ultra generous and gave 'Wood a 3 goal lead before realising this was serious. Charlie took his goal well and soon afterwards hit the post. Coleman should have got a shot on target but sent it high and wide. We had quite a bit of pressure and were awarded 3 or 4 free kicks in dangerous positions and had corners but couldn't capitalise even when their No.9 was sent off for a second yellow card. We needed someone strong upfront along with Charlie. I've heard that Charlton have a decent youngster who could fit the bill. Goes by the name of Sodje!

There were a few Daish out chants. Some decided to leave when we were 3-0 down ( which personally I cannot understand). It is a shame that with a good travelling support today that we were let down so badly. All teams come unstuck from time to time, but it was the manner in which we lost that was so disappointing. Seldom during this game did we ever look like a team 3 divisions higher than the opposition. On this display, in a competition in which we traditionally under perform, we will never win the Trophy and sadly it has to be admitted, neither do we deserve to. Not the best advert to increase our attendances and fill the coffers. As Hereford won today we will be without a game on the 4th February. Yet more lost revenue. How do we afford to be full time?

Oh, and I agree with Slarti. It was good to see Jimmy back. He put in a lot of effort too.

Right......here we go with my point of view...for what it's worth:-

a) I think the better team won today. They seemed to want it more & were quicker to the ball. Not unusually, quite a big side i.e. big blokes at the back, who can just knock away the hoof up front very easily.

B) With us being quite a "small" side, I think we need to play it on the ground & through "their" back four a bit more often.

c) The little "Daish Out" brigade behind the goal in the second half......respect your right to voice your opinion, albeit in simple terms and words of one syllable. But, why not come up with an alternative ? Ok, Daish goes, who comes in ? and who pays for it ?

It don't grow on trees you know ( unless you're Russian, and then it comes from underground....allegedly!) so....stick yer money in and buy the club...then we can all shout abuse at you.........not that we didn't anyway !!

C'mon the Fleet !

Regards,

I agree. While Liam Daish has what would appear to be very little idea of variety to his style of play (I wonder what his game plan actually was today?), we are still in a respectable position in the Conference and may with luck finish higher still. If I recall correctly, LD was given a two year contract. Even if the Board wanted to replace him, which I do not believe to be the case, the cost of doing so would be prohibitive. Also I believe that supporters of many other clubs would think we were mad to dismiss him. I just can't see it happening. The players still need our support even if some of our number don't also support the manager.

I was quite impressed with Boreham Wood although think that we would have had more success playing it down the sides a bit more. They were quick going forward, broke well and were organised if a little agricultural in defence.

Charlie desperately needs a partner up front. Took his goal well today and the strike that hit the post was a decent effort but he can't do it all.

Anyone who pays their money to watch the team is entitled to their opinion, whether we agree with it or not does not diminish their right to express it. It is noticeable that there was more unrest than usual with several different factions all unhappy.

Hopefully it'll be better on Friday.

Just why are we so lacking up front apart from Charlie?
Ask Daish that one - if you can find him, that is, in between his alledged wage-increase requests.

Kim Grant out, Manny out..... Omari 'The Shrek Donkey' Coleman in - does this bloke know how to get involved in a game? No movement, no passion, shied away from even the clearances by the Borehamwood defence. If Coleman is a professional standard football player then I'm the President of The USA!!!

Did you choose not to hear the abuse from the side then?
We could hear it from all areas of the Gravesend contingent.
'Daish out, who comes in?' I'll do it, it can't be any worse than today.

We're 10th - big deal - the only reason we're 10th is because it's a poor league this season - apart from Halifax at home, how many other 'great performances' have there been?

The chairman might have blinkered visions on other matches,
but I assure you a lot of fans haven't.

Attendance figures speak volumes - another season of this and we'll be the new Leigh RMI.

How much truth in the rumour that Daish wants a rise?

Trouble with rumour is it's unsubstantiated but easy to spread and believe. Check mikefleet's assertion on another thread that Bradley Johnson had gone AWOL and the club couldn't contact him, when the fact of the matter is he's likely to be signing until the end of the season. Or the various snippets of dressing room disorder and player dissatisfaction that more often than not turns out to be rubbish. All it takes is one careless accusation on this forum and everyone believes it.

I don't know whether or not Daish has asked for a pay rise (I find it hard to believe that he'd be able to swing an argument in favour of it) - it may well be that this is one rumour that does have mileage - but once it's uttered on here, people are only too happy to take it on board as gospel truth.

I agree with you Stu they are only rumours, but I heard a lot of dissaffection and some rumours at Exeter last Saturday, and allowing for some of it being unsubstantiated is fine, but it's just appears there's so much negativity around.

No smoke without fire.

I was left feeling that a club that iv'e loved and followed for 40 odd years was not the happiest.

You need everyone pulling in the same direction, but it appears there are too many factions and divisions, not healthy.

I did not "choose" not to hear the "abuse" from the side. The simple fact of the matter is that I did not hear it as I was sitting in the stand !

I look forward to the start of your managerial career.

Cheers,

Terible disappointment. I'd say our worst ever defeat in my memory, in terms of the theoretical gulf betwenn the teams. (But then the scope for difference is so much greater now, with all the layers of the Non League Pyramid.) Don't think we can lump in Kettering & Hornchurch as examples of our vulnerability in this area, Gary; Hornchurch were then an impossibly good team for their level, just waiting to implode & Kettering were pre Gazza & going very well just 1 level below us, not 3 (!!!) like Boreham Wood.

However, I am concerned about the way people are treating as fact the rumour that Liam has asked for more money, because of the evening training. We all know what b*llocks gets expressed on here as fact. (Tommy Sampson was going to take over from Fordy, if you remember.) Yes it might be true, but for those people who clearly have decided they don't want Liam as manager to treat something they've "heard" as gospel does them less favours than it does him.

Sitting in the stand? What sort of talk is that Wilson?

Shirley all this talk of performance related pay is being directed at the wrong target, there were very few players who can be pleased with their performance yesterday.

Lets put this into perspective though, we had a crap game, its happened before and it will happen again.

When I woke up yesterday we were 10th in the Conference and still in two cups, one of which we are favourites to win and one of which we weren't. This morning we are still 10th in the Conference and are still favourites to win the KSC.
