Blast From The Past - Part One

Ah... wish I had been there - Slough travel to the title favourites Sutton with a squad put together in nine days, having been ejected from the Conference in the summer, and then get battered by all accounts for much of the 90 minutes, but sneak a memorable 1-0 victory with an own goal. I do remember going to the next two home games against Bishops Stortford and Chesham though...

...and Sutton went on to win the league.

I was there and I seem to remember I played a tambourine for much of the game. It was awesome to just still exist let alone win the game.

Had stopped going for a while, then read about the mess the club was in and phoned the Silski's who said any show of support would be good.

I was completely skint so had to hitch hike to the game and bunk the trains back. Couldn't believe we actually won, caught up with a few old faces i went to school with, and starting getting that football bug back again.

I was there and like most other supporters was fearful of a real hammering, but I suppose I should have known better because when the odds are stacked against us we tend to pull a result out of the fire.

Looking at the programme the squad was:

Wilkerson, Channing, Hughes, Pierson, Line, Thorp, Asselman, Kemp, Deaner, Roach, Fiore, Freeman, Holsman, McVie.

I've also looked at the programme when we played Sutton away in 92/3 and the number 14 for them was Steve Brown.

Looking forward to seeing those other highlights Gary.

Just remembering back to that home game against Chesham in 1998/99 - great fun with Mark Fiore lobbing Bruce Grobbelaar from 35 yards in a 3-1 win in front of a 1,000+ crowd. Take a look at the Chesham team (as per the programme) that day as well - lots of familiar names...

1. Bruce Grobbelaar

2. Lee Randall

3. Mickey Engwell

4. Matt Flitter

5. David Thompson

6. Dean Chandler

7. Paul Barrowcliff

8. Richard Gell

9. Sammy Winston

10. Bryan Hammatt

11. Martin Carter

12. Steve Browne <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

14. Micky Swaysland

15. Allan Pluckrose

Manager: Graham Roberts

I was there....& the Chesham game, never stopped going despite it all!

Interesting how many of the Chesham team became Slough players eventually!

I can't believe we're still in a mess almost 8 years after the summer of hell.
