Perhaps we should be charging £10 and £5?

Not at all, H.

But certainly one thing the board might consider is a FLEXIBLE pricing policy, perhaps reducing the prices for those matches considered "less glamourous".

I have paid the extra £2 but to offset this have foregone my pre match Fleetburger (some might consider that a wise decision).

However, I do appreciate there are those amongst us who cannot afford the extra £2 per game nor cannot afford the ticket book scheme, and simply stay at home on the less attractive looking games.

I also know this is a daft theory, some of the best games I have seen have been the less attractive looking on paper - but that is human nature.

Clearly we are not going to compete on a level playing field with Charlton, and like you I would rather watch Fleet v Halifax than Charlton v Birmingham.

We do need to address the floating fan, who at 14-18 years old probably is still open to converting into a lifelong Fleet fan.

This is to whom my theory is aimed.

Worth a try?

To further my arguement, extracted from Confguide:

Average home attendance 2005/6 1146

Average home att. all games 2004/5 1336 (-14%)

Average home att. same period of season 2004/5 1472 (-22%)

FACT - we have lost nearly 1 in 4 fans so far this season.

We are out of the FA Cup.

We are confortably mid table.

We only have the FA Trophy and the KSC to look to for success.

Realistically average gates are unlikely to increase wholesale between now and the end of the season, except by pulling in large crowds against the likes of Canvey, Grays, Hereford, ~Aldershot and possibly Woking.

Whilst the board are on record saying they are confortable with this, clearly the increased income resulting from the price rise has not materialised, and has probably gone down.

All I am suggesting is that the club explore every avenue to recover the missing 326 fans.

We have heard people comment on the crowd size all season, from the clubs program, the director and the fans, instead of keep going on about it, why not just drop the prices to £10 and £5 for the remainder of the season, and see if this does make the difference.

We all know there is a problem here, but if you dont try you wont know.

Prices were £10 last year and we still lost a fair percentage of fans on the season before. That first season isn't really a good barometer - it was our first season, it was a novelty and a lot of people simply aren't ar$ed anymore. That's the nub of it, people simply not wanting to visit the Fleet and however much we appeal to them, and however many schemes we introduce - and I'm not saying we shouldn't keep trying these things - you can't convince people if they're not going to be convinced.

Look at Accy, top of the league and lower crowds than last season!

This could be seen as penalizing season ticket holders. Then again, particularly if the season ticket was purchased at the discount price, season ticket holders have already secured a discount of their own.

It would make a difference, the club would lose around £20,000 in gate receipts so we would need to attract at least an extra 200 fans to each game.

granted, but until we actually try something we won't know,Apart from moving the turn styles as i mentioned, for the bar to gain more revenue,we all seam to be going around in circles. surly one of our ideas has got to work.

Well i heard that we was getting turn styles from southend, how true i dont know, but that was a while ago, it makes sence to spend money on moving them, to get it back across the bar, to stop the plough getting the extra revenue. It works at daggers well, the income would way out do the total spent on the project.

It could also lead to a savage reduction in our capacity or even closure of the ground for safety reasons. If the turnstiles were moved sideways to leave the bar "outside the ground" the what is already a restricted access would become completely impassable in the event of an emergency.

Our capacity is already limited by the lack of emergency exits and this proposal removes 50% of what we do have.

yes dave looking at that way your right, but there must be a way of doing something to get the bar out side the ground and the turn stiles moved to help in this.may be up on the concrete flat area and a gate between the ground and bar, to be openened at the end or in the event of an emergancy.

Yeh thanks very much for reminding me that it's actually cheaper for me to go and watch a premiership game than the Fleet. People going on about why we struggle to attract new fans; well there's the reason for you. Why on earth are under 18s charged so much at the Fleet? Charlton have the got the right idea, try and attract the people that are young enough to be 'converted' and yet old enough to make their own way to games and pay for themselves.

I only started coming to Fleet games because it was local and within walking distance, and was much cheaper than premiership games. What chance have we got of winning new fans over now that we charge under 18s more than at Charlton?

Young adults need an incentive to watch football at Stonebridge Road. It seems to me there no longer is one; higher prices, closure of plough end getting rid of atmosphere and of course mid-table football. Don't get me wrong on that last point because I'm more than happy with where we are at the moment, but being 10th in the league ain't gonna bring new fans in. I really don't know where I'm going with this as I dont have some new brilliant scheme that will fix everything. All I can suggest is a price reduction for students to try and bring that incentive back. Those are my thoughts.
