lets not get too over the top

in my opinion i feel everyone is getting way over the top about current events on and off the field. in my view the team is going through a bad patch - wow nothing strange there just look at arsenal. they have lost four straight matches their worst run of results for something like 19 years, but no one's panicking and they are by no means out of league and can still easily win it. EVERY team goes through a bad patch at some point during a season. just because we are having a bad patch of late does not in any way mean we are going to do exactly the same as we did last year. and why is everyone saying the games against purfleet and aldershot are 'make or break' in the course of the season??? the season is still relatively young and there are LOTS of games still to be played. at the moment i am not bothered if we are 1st in the league or 8th because there are so few points separating the top 8 at the moment. there is really no point looking at the league until around about christmas. i dont care if we are 1st or 8th just so long as we are still in the title race. if we lose against aldershot (which i dont think we will) we certainly wont be out of the league title race.

another point i feel is necessary is the fact that we have played very few 'weak' teams so far. we've still yet to play hampton, ford, grays and i thought we were very unlucky to lose to both braintree and enfield in the league - the 4-0 stuffing of braintree showed it was a fluke result. we have also played a lot of very useful teams who will be 'there or thereabouts' at the end of the season, such as sutton, st.albans, hendon, maidenhead, kinstonian and purfleet twice.

THE LEAGUE IS BY NO MEANS OVER YET, SHOWN TODAY BY THE FACT ST.ALBANS LOST 4-2 AT HOME TO BRAINTREE.

i'm not saying the supporters are wrong to be angry and frustrated, but i feel it is far too early to be making assumptions that the season is over because we have lost three games in a row. the start of the season shows the players are capable of great performances, and we have assembled a side well capable of achieving things this season. probably because of the quality of this side expectations have soared (last season we never expected to be in the title race) and so when things do go a bit wrong the reaction is probably a little more disappointing than usual.

football supporters can be extremely fickle and if we win against aldershot, hitchin and then make our way through to the next round of the trophy the season will be 'back on'.

lets get behind the lads and instill some confidence they have quite clearly lost over the last few games, COME ON RICAY!!

The worry is that our record of bouncing back from blips of this type is pretty ropey - last season we went 10 league games without a win after getting knocked out of the FA cup. The season isn't over yet, and you're right to say we should wait until Christmas to judge, but if Aldersh*t win their game in hand on monday and then beat us Saturday we'll be 12 points off the pace.

yes aldershot look strong this year and lets hope our decent record against them in recent years will continue next sat.

with regard to current performances i think there is good reason to be concerned and our season could indeed soon be over with another couple of league defeats and an early trophy exit.

i feel some of the players have contributed to the recent downturn with roy, russell and dave mc all managing to get sent off and thus suspended for 3 games each. however for me the biggest concern is mark brennan who the management seem to have fallen over backwards for to accommodate in the team in various positions yet has produced nothing for ages now.

everyone seems to think we have the best squad of players we have ever had yet we find ourselves in the same predicament as last season (and the season before etc etc). in my opinion the management have to take responsibility for this. we had a defence as tight as a gnats so what do they do..not only change the personnel but change the system as well...its madness on a grand scale...

we have an excellent opportunity to stop the rot on tuesday and the management must make ensure we sent out a side strong enough to win this game to give us some much needed confidence ahead of our crucial game agst the shots on saturday.
