I didn't think Zepherin was playing that badly. The conditions were difficult and the Lewes keeper was struggling just the same. I anything I think had Dom been in goal in the second half, he would have come out and claimed the ball in the build up to their 4th and 5th. Changing goalkeeper at half time was always going to unbalance the defence. McCann came on and did play well but he should either have started or waited until Wednesday. I also thought Howard was playing too deep several times in the second half he played their attackers on side and McCann was shouting furiously at him to move up. Another example of what happens when you change keepers at half time.

Dominique did have a bit of a nightmare. I am not sure about the goal they had ruled out for heading the ball out of his hands. He possibly should have held onto the header that helped make it 2-2, and he gave away a corner that could have been avoided before Metcalfe put the ball into his own net from the set piece.

Saying all that though the conditions were awful for goalkeepers.

Strange game as both sides looked like scoring every time they attacked. It could have easily been more of a high scoring game than it was. We missed 3 or 4 good chances early in the second half.

Just one point. Why did Spencer play right back? Surely it would have been morre sensible to have Adran Brown as centre back and Anthony Howard at right back?

Overall, not really bothered about being knocked out as we already have a fixture backlog in the league from the FA Cup run, and the league is the priority.

I don't care the reasons or excuses , that was the most shocking exhibition of defending i've ever seen !! We had no defence , there's a few of us who do Mat's site reports and the back line all got Zero . Me and Plinth to keep dry stayed down the far end under cover where we were defending and it was just comical ! If I do that tomorrow morning I'd get shot ! Yes conditions were bad , but Zepherin should have done better . Over all we were bad and still scored 4 and in the 2nd half we created excellent chances that were woefully missed , we should have scored 6 . Lewes weren't that special , we made them look that good .

I have to agree with chris that the league must be our priority but any sort of cup run is good for morale. It does make you wonder why spencer was playing right back. I could still name many players that were worse than Zepherin. I feel that he has come on leaps and bounds since we first saw him last season and it is not right that he shoulders the blame for this defeat. I would say that perhaps Barras should have got more than zero.

overall, today, did Slough deserve to lose? Who played better? Did the scoreline reflect good attacking play, or abysmal defending? Did the weather make the game a joke?

looking at the scoreline, I'm disappointed we conceded 6. I'm also disappoined we're out of the Trophy at the first attempt. However I'm glad we won't have severe fixture congestion like Canvey Island did which stopped them from reaching the Conference. We have the league to focus on and money-spinning FA Cup adventures to pursue.

Lewes not special? why? we do make a habit of beating over-rated,overpaid and over egotistical average sides, only to see them bleating about the reasons for defeat. Just be thankful the weather was so bad or you might have got the tonking you deserved. Lewes are in fact quite special, second in the league, beaten just once and the only team to defeat yet another bunch of champagne charlies Carshalton FC. When will some people learn, you dont buy commitment and passion. Oh! by the way curious why with one hooligan among your fold you would sign C Ferdinand, not good PR. Cheers enjoy the grapes.

Not a very logical reply by Lewes fan. Bleating about the result would mean blaming the ref, bad luck, the weather etc. Saying we were bad at defending, and didn't take our chances doesn't sound like bleating to me. However badly we played, it must have been better than last year. Here's to playing you at home in the premier next season with a bit of luck.

Having been unable to go to the Lewes game and thus not knowing the line-up, I can only make guesses at the back four. Obviously we had a problem, because Howard had to play in centre defence. To my knowledge, we are missing Daly and Adrian Brown through injury and it seems like Nick Gyoury's transfer from Chelmsford had not been finalised and thus ruled him out (he should be back for League games). This probably left Steve Browne with only two fit centre halves and then you have the problem of right back.. no Wilkinson (injured) to fill in, and I do recall Ryan Spencer played for a while at right back for Hayes in the Conference. It's the pitfalls of having a small, budgeted squad. Obviously we are stretched.

As for the conditions, sounds like it could have gone either way, with both defences finding the rain hard to cope with. Whilst Lewes are a good side, any defence is likely to be hampered in such a downfall. We have been notoriously missing chances all season (Hornchurch & Oxford to name two). To be honest, I have felt our defence has been young all season (barring Barras and earlier on, Daly).. it's not surprising that the young defence has been punished heavily. I could see it coming. Equally, in attack we have promised to spank someone really hard all season, a 6, 7 or 8 nil victory. But alas, not yet.

Good luck to the Lewes players, theyve put one over us again. We have bigger things to concentrate on at the moment. Whilst an early exit in the Trophy is not ideal, like people have noted, we have the League to concentrate and are having a good run in the FA Cup.

Let's not get on Steve Browne's back over this one, especially after last week's thrilling Canvey victory. We have plenty of home games coming up to get excited about (hoping I can make a few of them, work permitting)

So, a view taken from not having seen the match, but a good guess at the possible thoughts behind the selection problems.

Can anyone actually supply match details?

Cheers.

For the comment about Barras shouldn't have been a zero mark , admittedly I'm being harsh but it was still very poor for him . For The Lewes fan , it's not sour grapes . I and others admit we were cack . We were shocking and deseveved to get stuffed . My sunday side could have scored 6 . But you lot still weren't that great . So what if you are second in your division . Lets see come May . We aren't arrogant , we haven't been for 5 years , we've had too many problems to be arrogant and it doesn't mean we'll get promoted either .

Why is it so many teams see us as big-time Charlies and take such great pleasure from any result they get?

I don't remember feeling incredibly arrogant following our demotion when it looked like we might start the season with a squad of six.

The team has been slowly rebuilt (too slowly you could say) and now we do finally have a decent squad. Our wage bill has been slashed and we appear to have that key blend of youth and experience (when everyone is fit).

One result does not a season make. We already have plenty of good memories from this season, let's hope for a few more. Just forget this game and move on.

The reason why teams still see us as a scalp is because they see the name rather than the side. We're still a big draw for anyone at this level, and sometimes the players don't understand that.

Plenty still to look forward to for a change though!
