A message from the Chairman

Recommended Posts

You're right on things such as the Sodje situation and similar, but when clubs do offer communication direct (fans' forums for instance), they're usually very poorly attended. Managers and chairmen still tend to use the programme for the more idle chit-chat but I think the club is getting more into the website side of things, what with issuing press releases and explaining the situation over the Crawley postponement within 24/48 hours. Sure, there's always room for improvement, but one or two instances aside, they'll usually stump up with an explanation for things.

I don't see that many Conference club websites with anything more than match reports, the odd club statement, transfer and fixture news, etc.

£30,000 was the figure mentioned I think.
I think the Trust AGM voted not to pay out the money.

I can understand that up to a point, but i think a great chance to keep a finger on the pulse of the committed supporter may have been lost!

Alty's website has a superbly detailed news update service. But yes, sites like this are in the minority.

P.S. FF, I agree with you on Sodje - a simple 'he's still with us' or 'he's left' will suffice.

The problem with 21st century communication is that everyone expects instant answers and comment, whether it is appropriate they are party to the information at that particular time or not.

The days of James Alexander Gordon reading the football results and factual match reports in the papers is now replaced by comment, speculation and the 'need to know' , much of which those with no information have the need to comment upon, hiding behind an alias.

Down here the Saints supporters are just as bad, look at the website forum for saintsforever.com - all the members do is moan about some rumour they've picked up on which may not be true anyway.

I'm sure Brian tells the supporters what they need to really know, the rest is probably speculation.
