A message from the Chairman

Recommended Posts

As Brian said, the chief culprits are those behind the letter to Brian and the 2 or 3 individuals who come on here with nothing but negativity. It can only be assumed they aare the same people.

We all whinge when we play badly and lose, and generally say our piece on here, then forget about it and look forward to a better performance next time. That happens at hundreds of clubs up and down the country and at every level.

Perhaps those with a hidden agenda should be a little more forthcoming as to their true intent, or simply shut up and go away, leaving this medium to those of us who really care for the club.

Although a season ticket holder, I have not been to many games in the last couple of seasons as my son plays on a Saturday these days.

Sadly I must admit I have lost interest in the forum over the last couple of years due to the most successful period in the club's history coinciding with some very negative support.

I'm surprised Brian has kept quiet for so long.

This situation,(IMHO)is not new in this club, or any other, and seems to stem from a lack of communication between Board and Supporters.

The Board are there to run the Club,(and this Board seem to be doing alright)but they must not forget also, without Supporters, there wouldn't be a Club!

Maybe regular reports from the Board might help to allay some of the negative posts on this forum, and help people understand some of the decisions made!

This also goes for the Manager, maybe some insights to loans, and players not playing, could help aleviate the matter.

Some people might say i have no right to put my thoughts forward as i don't "support" the Club any longer, but i hate to see the club,(Board/Management and Supporters) i have loved since a boy, at one and others throats. Especially as the Club seems to be in it's strongest position ever to have a great future!

I am not sure at each others throats is where we are at, but I was hoping that when the Trust was set up, and a trust person being invited into the inner sanctum , we would have pulled together a bit more and there would be more open communication between all. Unfortunately this does not appear to be the case.

I'm delighted to see Brian making these comments to the fans. There is a lot of unfair criticism heaped on the Board and the manager on here, but one criticism that I think is fair is that the clubs communication with the fans is not what it could be.

Indeed - it was a little odd to have Omari Coleman's loan extension confirmed by actually seeing him on the pitch at Dagenham, rather than via a message from the club.

Furthermore, an official update on the whereabouts of Onome Sodje wouldn't go amiss.

I'm not a lover of the long ball game but sometimes its necessary to get results. My other team is West Ham, the founders of the Accademy, exponents of flowing, fluid football and look what they've won in the past 25 years. Bugger all. (I don't countplay-offs). As for us, it all comes down to ability. Imagine it, our class keeper on for his tenth consequetive clean sheet saves another penalty, rolls the ball to one of our rock solid quality defenders who deftly side-steps two tackles and places an inch-perfect pass to the feet of our right winger. He passes to the centre midfielders who can scythe open any defence at will and place a precsion 50 yard lob straight onto the head of one of 30 plus goals a season strikers. It ain't gonna happen. The fact is the vast majority of Conference players are very mediocre, that's why they're in the Conference and not playing for Premiership clubs. The league's mainly made up of players hoping to get into the football league, players dropping out of the football league and players not good enough to go any higher. Watch a video of any Conference game and then watch a Championship match. The former look like carthorses on steroids. We are, therefore, a mediocre team in a mediocre league and we're doing alright in it. Keep on whatever you're doing, Brian, Liam and the rest 'cos whilst its not pretty, its working.

As with Alan (GNFC), I don't come on this forum much these days mainly due to the pathetic squabbling that goes on thread after thread. Its almost happened on this one as well. People have slagged off each other, the board, the management, the players and even those heathens who dare to sing. At football match? Disgusting! Stamp it out. I probably won't even bother to see if my post warrants a reply.

I have not seen the letter in question and am not sure of it's contents, but I heard mention of it a few months ago ( October ?). Why only refer to it now when perhaps the dust should have settled and been left to stay undisturbed? Generally however, I agree that the supporters should get behind the club in all its elements. Too many people criticise just for the sake of it. I feel that this would be more likely to happen if the Club's communications with it's own paying customers was better than it is at present.

On the other hand, how much information is too much?

I would be happy with clarification of whether Onome Sodje is still available to us - a simple yes or no.

If not, I don't want to know the ins, outs and whys.

If it was because he was injured then fair enough.

On the other hand, if there was some sort of bust-up, it's really none of our business.

Agree FF- Its an old chestnut that comes round from time to time.

I know its not the be all and end all, but especially for those of us that don't live in the area any more and don't get the local rags , the clubs website should be a source of up to date latest information on whats happening. All clubs in divisions above us manage it , most in our division do, and plenty lower down the ranks also far exceed the level of information that we get.

We don't need the ins and outs of everything but just good reliable information. If we don't get that then speculation starts.

its great to see something from Brian, just a shame its in an answer to all the negative stuff on here. And just wish it was part of a regular update on the main website.

we are getting many things right as a club, but the communication always seems to let us down.

God bless the Fleet and all that sail in her.
