Canvey v Accrington

YELLOW

Recommended Posts

All credit to Accrington today. Great set of supporters and on the pitch they were the best side we've played this season. Solid in defence and took they chances when it counted.

We gave our all but it wasn't enough. Jason, Wardy and Mints stood out for me. Gave 110% and tried there hardest today.

The Yellow Army were magnificent today. Got behind the team from the first whistle and kept singing to the end.

The guy with the microphone from Accrington is a legend. You get my respect just for singing a Kaiser Chiefs' song!!! Brilliant!!

Unfortunately, rant time!! As I was walking past the main stand near the end, I heard a couple of so called Canvey fans, shouting "rubbish" and generally abusing players at a failed free kick effort. If you're not going to get behind the side then don't come again. What I heard was embarassing and is a dissapointment to this club.

It totally ruined a decent atmosphere and to be honest these supporters can go to hell for all I care. Yes people are entitled to their opinions but what I heard was totally out of order!!

Totally agree with you 'Yellow' Accrington are the best team we have played this season and I really hope they go up this season.

It was so good to see both sets of fans be able to stand side by side and have some good natured banter.

Despite being second best today we never gave up both on and off the field. Didnt hear the idiots you mentioned but it doesn't surprise me.Sadly there are always a few moaners who seem to think the team has to win every single game. I remember even in the season we won the Ryman there was still people moaning then!! Some people you just can't please.

was standing on the terrace at full time,i must say that virtually everybody around me applauded the lads.everyone seemed to appreciate the effort the team made today.

as for the few idiots-heard some burke start having a go at Chenners, only for Ben to have a good header at goal(tipped over by keeper)the twat shut up after that.

i know that we lost, but it wasnt a bad performance by any means.think the Stanley will probably be champions-best team we have played this season.

It could have turned very nasty today, both sets of supporters were given the freedom of the ground and the Canvey fans moved into the stanley fans area, banging drums and singing.

It was a credit to both sets of fans that despite the confusion, (as the stanley fans did not realise that they were welcome then take over our end).

Both sets of fans shared the same end and tried to out sing each other. (it hurt my ears)

There was a mutual respect and honesty that comes from an understanding and feel for non league football.

Good Luck in the League Stanley, the Conference will not miss you, however we will miss your supporters.

Key things for me:

You could see early on that we were playing a very decent side. Hate to say it but I was quite impressed with their passing and movement. In fact it was a good passing game overall and perhaps the fact that the ball hardly went out of the ground showed it was a different game today.

Thought the ref was doing okay generally for most of the game. He was trying to let the game flow when a foul had been made and he would wait to see if he needed to call play back. Sadly towards the end, he started making some stupid bookings and became the regular ref.

Quite enjoyed seeing Jeff get stuck in today and seems to be more of his game nowadays which is pleasing as we were a bit lightweight in that area.

I just don’t think we had any qualms about the result today. If Accry keep playing like that then they have to finish thereabouts you would of thought.

Fantastic atmosphere at the Lane yesterday. We did our usual of going in whichever shed we're shooting towards, but Stanley had pitched up and decided to stay.

From then on in the banter was great, both The Yellow Army and the Stanley Ultras getting behind their team. I think the mutual respect was evident as there were very few songs slagging off each other, just supporting the teams. Some songs where even collaborated on, especially the ones concerning us beating Grays for some reason?!?!

They even let us use their megaphone on a few occasions, once when I did the "Everywhere We Go" song, and the other when Canveyboy18 started using it, to which both sets of fans broke into a chant of "You Fat [****!!****]!"

The singing kept going long after the match during the flags being taken down for each side, and afterwards we met up with their fans in the clubhouse before their coach left.

As for the match, thought that Jeff Minton was really good again today. I agree with Phil Old Boy in that he is getting stuck in more, it's really giving us a bite in the midfield. Wardy won MOTM and deservedly so.

Overall a good performance from the lads both on the pitch and in the stands against opposition and fans who are definately one of the best if not the best in the league.

There are some good pictures from the game at the Kipax website

Sometimes you lose a game and aren`t too dissapointed, Accrington deserved their win but not by 2 goals. I thought they were a very efficient, direct side who could also play the ball on the floor when needed.

As has been mentioned before their fans were great and helped make a good atmosphere in the ground, it will be a shame to lose the fixture if/when they go up and and hope they can have the same enjoyment in the Football League.

While Steve Ward desrved his m.o.m. several other players put in very good performances and as a team i thought we played well.

Agree with comments about the ref, he seemed to lose grip towards the end and to book Keeling for diving was a joke.

Good attendance of nearly 1,000. Not bad considering the first week of January is notorious for bad attendances.

Thanx for all the nice comments, good luck with your season. The first half has been the highlight of my season so far, no nastiness between the fans, most of the chants were for the teams, only a couple of chants to have a pop at each other. Also enjoyed the Grays bashing, even though I loved their fans. Also enjoyed the Portacabin bar, the fastest I've been served all season, friendly bar staff and very comfartable to boot. The scenes between the fans in the first half really were something to behold, and is what football should be all about, I nipped to the toilets about 10 minutes before the end of the first half, and the fans really were loud, though I had trouble distinguishing what songs were being sung lol
