City 3 Welling 1

Recommended Posts

Cracking first half - 3 excellent goals by city <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Second half not bad either - I thought city played some nice football at times. If I had to be ultra critical we sometimes give the ball away too easy, but all in all a good performance and the latest centre half looked like he knew what he was doing.

I am starting to get a warm comfortable feeling about city (and no I haven't wet my self)

Lets go <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/excited.gif" alt="" />

Top performance by the midfield duo of Cracknell and Davis today. You get the impression with this team that when they go a goal down or concede they will always come back stronger. It seems a long time since I last saw them lose [against Eastleigh].

Tamworth's FA Cup replay isn't until the 17th so they'll be taking it easy on the 14th, hopefully!

Smashing win on Saturday. Lee Clarke's chip was cheeky, it's a shame it didn't go straight in. We seem to have no problems scoring at the moment. Looking at the league table for this season it appears we've only failed to score in a league game once - away at Sutton. Looking good!

Nick Roddis and Adrian Pennock are unlikely to exchange Christmas cards as a result of an incident about 5 minutes from time.

The ball left the ground and the referee signalled for another from the dug-out. Nick picked one up and dropped it in front of him, before taking a pace back in order to hit an inch-perfect 35 yard pass to the place where the thing was required. Pennock considered that Nick was taking too long calcualting the necessary trajectory required in the light of the prevailing weather conditions etc. and took matters into his own hands by coming into our technical area, picking up the ball and punting it towards his player waiting to take the throw-in.

They exchanged pleasantries regarding their respective parentage.

They definitely shook hands at the end of the game but Pennock decided to try to continue the conversation regarding the 'second ball' incident. Nick realy didn't seem too bothered.

There had been an exchange between Nick and Lee Gledhill about 15 minutes beforehand, and I shouldn't think that they are on each others Christmas card lists either.

The incident with Lee Gledhill is worthy of repetition.

Nick stands in the technical area with hands in his pockets on cold days. He sometimes puts his foot on a spare ball and 'fiddles' with it. Once again a ball had gone into the stand and it was a Welling throw-in about 10 yards into our half. The referee hadn't [yet] signalled for a replacement ball but Lee was anxious to get on wih the game. He came into our technical area and tried to pick the one up from under Nick's boot.

Due to inattention, I'm sure, Nick rolled the ball behind himself. Lee ran around to gather it and Nick had left his studs casually resting on the ball. Gledhill got into a bit of a tangle with Nick's leg and did well to stay on his feet. He gathered the ball and took the throw-in. A swear-box placed in front of our technical area would have gathered a few quid from the Welling No 2 over the next 5 minutes or so.

I did suggest to Nick from my seat in the stand, that he shouldn't be intimidated by Gledhill and he seemed to heed my well-intentioned advice.
