MATCH THREAD

Not a good game, disjointed with Slough failing to control the ball and with little posession, against a well structured and determined oposition.

No real weak links in the side, just poor passing and failing to find an amber shirt.

Some strange tactics too including a short corner near the end which was soon lost to the oppersition, and then we were found rushing back to defened, which in some ways summed up the game.

Looks like it will be like this for the rest of the season - win a few, lose a few!

But then who in their right mind would have predicted anything different at the start of the season? Staying in this division should have been the aim.

Awful performance overall, with several below-par individual performances. The pitch doesn't help matters but our boys struggled to pass to one another today, and to get efforts on goal (again), and the long ball tactic doesn't work. Billericay dominated as expected and were unlucky not to score more. It'll probably be like this for the remainder of the season but as long as we scrap together enough points I'll be happy enough I think.

I thnk we should give a lot of credit to Billericay. They didn't let us get into the game and pretty much dominated prceedings with excellent team play and good shape to their side.

It was a reprise of last season when they won 6-0, so perhaps we should be grateful it was only 2-0. They are the best side I've seen this season in this league by a long way and find it incredible they aren't top.

Totally agree with Bernie. Credit should go to Billericay who denied us any time on the ball and forced us into hitting it long. They're the best side I've seen at this level for the last two years.

Mark Avery should get a mention as putting in a decent performance for us but the rest struggled.

Yes have to agree Billericay were very good and in control for long periods of the game..in fact to keep it to 2 nil was a feat in its self...

Billericay are under full time training and it showed...but we are still a bit reluctant to keep supporting our team when things are not as we want them to be.....but as already stated lets think hard and long, we have a long way to go to survive..but we must all be pulling in the same direction...even though we know things are not going to well....

up the Rebels..

Andy Ballard MOM for me...today..never gave up...

Think we have to say that we were easily beaten by the better side. We did not play well, but even if we did OK I could see them raising their game if needed.

Agree with Gary about Warren Ryan. Nearly gave him MOM in my NLP report as he was excellent 1st half, but their 9 (Nathan Elder) just shaded it for me.

With Warren Ryan spraying the ball around in midfield I thought we could have gone 5-3-2 and added another man in the middle of the park, as Wilko and Ballard never tend to get into the areas where he was spraying the ball around.

Apparently they have been struggling with injuries all season. Would be a good bet if they get in the play-off's I believe.

As for us. Well were four goals better than last year and have some winable matches coming-up. Lets concentrate on staying-up, getting behind the boys then building for next season.

Firstly, congrats to Billericay who I think showed us the right way to approach a game and for a team who have been having a relatively poor season completely out class us.

Whilst accepting that we were out classed today there are two things that I find difficult to accept:

1) After our first half display it seemed patently obvious that if we kept giving their midfield, especially their number 11, the same amount of time and space on the ball we would carry on making them look world beaters and they would carry on making us look silly.

In the second half it seemed like the management and players didn't have the nous to see this because absolutely nothing changed and their midfield carried on having the freedom of the park.

2) The same old chestnut:

I arrived at 1.45 and was surprised to see a team that had travelled from Essex already on the pitch doing their pre match warm up, and yes, you've guessed it, at about 2.15 we start coming out in dribs and drabs and at approx. 2.30 Mark West comes out to start our pre match warm up, most of it comprising of the same old tired routine of standing around in a circle passing to each other over a distance of about 5 yards.

Considering it was a pretty cold day this routine requires players to stand around and not touch the ball for maybe a couple of minutes.

I just fail to see where the logic is.

Awful game in which we never looked like scoring.

At least the FA Cup restored my faith in football. The Luton - Liverpool match was sensational.

I thought Ricay were comfortably the best team we played last season and Saturday they strolled passed us without needing to get out of second gear. I would be very surprised if they did not go on to make the play-offs.

They were certainly the most talented team we have met so far.

When they got beat by Chelmsford their website said they were beaten because Chelmsford closed them down and didn't allow them to play.

I wouldn't mind betting that the teams that have taken points off them this season have done exactly that.
