Brett Johnson to return

The Key phrase is:

Daish explained: "Northampton are hoping to make a signing and if that goes through, Brett will return. At the moment we’re trying to sort something out with Brett."

As yet they haven't annouced making that signing, so it may be cutting it a bit fine for Saturday. Still if we can get him back for the rest of the season it will be good.

yes i would keep skins in the side after mondays performance:

Until he gets himself suspended...again!

Lets face up to the fact that the club will soon be fully professional. It remains very unlikley that Skins will agree to go full-time and lets also face the fact that whilst he is fully committed to the 'Fleets' cause he is also a liability in terms of getting into trouble with referees.

I'd welcome back Johnson with open arms and offer him a full-time contract as soon as Northampton allow us to sign him.

Has anyone got an idea of when the part-time players like Jimmy, Proths, McKimm and Skins' contracts expire?

Judging by club announcements at the time the contracts were signed, all the players you've mentioned are out of contract at the end of this season.

They seem to enjoy letting him off though (e.g. on Monday, whenever Amy Rayner is our referee).

McCarthy makes up for that in experience. He has a good footballing knowledge and usualy knows exactly what he's doing - he has saved us number of times. I find it is best to have an experienced defender next to an inexperienced one.(Not that ross is of course). Ross & Macca have done well at the back most of this season, why change this?

If you play Proths at right back then our back four is pedestrian like. The cause of many a problem on saturday.

It doesn't take a genius to work out how to play us.

Would love to see The Johnson bros back in business on the left hand side, and a player with proths touch and Goodings pace on the right.

Then Macca II is protected.

No Jacko? Interesting. Admittedly, the Johnsons idea could certainly work, but we again come back to the problem of trying to construct a team dependent on loan players.

Not really. Jacko a legend over the years, the mainstay nay heartbeat of the team that delivered us conference footie.

However, saying that, past achievements should not cloud the goal of moving up a level.

Jacko is a great asset on the bench due to his versatility, but IMHO if we are going to move forward I would suggest a place in the starting line up should become less and less likely.

we seem to want it all, and whilst I may have doubts over LD's tactical nous. I do feel that he and Brian are going about the squad make up the right way. Although I do not know which one is driving it, I just hope it is BK.

we are all aware that the part time set up we had, had taken us probably as far as we could. We are also all aware that we do not have the crowds or infrastucture to support long contracted full timers. Our only hope of making this work, is getting full timers on the cheap/loan and hope that we gel enough to make play offs / promotion. At which time , we would gamble that crowds would increase and then longer contracted full timers become a possibility, but even then they would have be supplemented by many loaners.

The options we have at the moment are;

a) Stay PT and suffer the inevitable relegation either next season or the following one.

B) Blow the budget on assembling a FT squad with contracted players, and gamble on promotion or bankruptcy. Whichever come first. And the promotion would not neccessarily stop the second.

or c) amass a mostly FT squad of short term contracted players / loaners good enough for a mid table slot, within budget, and with at least an outside chance of the play offs.

I tend to think that the approach we are taking is the most sensible one for the club at the moment in time.
