... as promised earlier in the week.

No doubt I'll be slagged off by Thornsy, and accused of having narrow-mided music taste, but here goes...

So bloody what if there's four Beatles albums in there. Who else made five consecutive classic, brilliant albums??

Are you aware that the second album in your list is the "White Album" by the beatles? I have a copy of it at home and I get the feeling it was released as some kind of joke. I think it should swap places with "Number 9".

Number 10 was the first album produced on 4 or 8 track (I can't remember which) and probably deserves a bit more credit, seeing as it also has some decent songs on it.

Zealster, you need help!

For those that haven't had the pleasure, here's a sample of the lyrics of one of the tracks...

"Number Nine; Number Nine; Number Nine; Number Nine; Number Nine; Number Nine; Number Nine; Number Nine; Number Nine; Number Nine; "... ad infinitum!

Greetings, O Learned One.

I am a rare visitor to this General thread thing on the grounds that the quizzes are far too difficult, and some of the musical references obscure. As far as CZ's top 10 is concerned, I am familiar with all of his choices and I simply wonder whether he was born after his time.

Yours, however, are a horse of a different colour.

Please enlighten me. What is that lot? At risk of entirely demonstrating my lack of knowledge, does the name of the band or the name of the album come first?

It can't be punk, RnB, soul, rock, rap, indie or boyband. House? Garidge [sic]? Shed?

When replying, it would be helpful if you could highlight a more mainstream band/artist who has done something similar.

I would have Morning Glory, Sgt peppers and the White Album in there...

but I would put in both OK Computer & The Bends by Q's best act in the world today, my beloved Radiohead..

also (in no particular order)

Blur - Parklife

Led Zep - Led ZepII

Pink Floyd - Wish you were here

Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon

Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie

By the way, is the Stockport game on the 9th nov now? If so, our little game will be rearranged.

That's good, you'll have your mind on cup glory while we sneak away with the points..

I remember going to Stevenage in the Trophy a few years back and they were about to play Newcastle. A certain Youness Nabil shined for Chesham in a 2-2 draw at their place.

Currently getting ready to 'batten down the hatches' as Aldershot are on hunt for a bit of revenge, one word comes to mind, carnage.

Oh, got the 'Kiss of the Morning' album, stand out track has to be track 3 'locked doors', sounds a bit like Lennon doesn't it??

Band name comes first:

1. Thee Headcoats - Beached Earls: the great Billy Childish: CD comp of 2 x LPs - blues / punk / comedy: Ivor Cutler meets the Cramps

2. Circle - Prospekt: Finnish outfit heavily influenced by Loop / Spacement 3 + classic Krautrock - Can / Neu! etc.

3. High Rise - II: Japanese guitar heavy psych from early 80s - Blue Cheer meets Motorhead

4. Congos - Heart of the Congos: ultimate reggae harmony produced by the almighty Lee Scratch Perry

5. Fall - Grotesque (After the Gramme): Mark E Smith - no comparisons, other than god-awful replicas such as Pavement, British Sea Power, Ikara Colt etc.

6. Current 93 - All the Pretty Little Horsies: David Tibet and his apocalyptic folk crew - an eerie early Fleetwood Mac via Shirley Collins and the Paris Sisters

7. Gang of 4 - Entertainment: best post-punk record ever - Andy Gill now pens terrible reviews for the Grauniad

8. Pearls Before Swine - One Nation Underground: Tom Rapp and his anti-war US late 60s folky combo - very much of its time

9. Throbbing Gristle - DOA: Third and Final Report: the ultimate industrial pioneers set out to challenge society's norms through music. 'The future of music is with non-musicians'. How right they were (Pap Idol / Bloo / Keely Minog etc).

10. Pop Group - For How Much Longer Must We Tolerate Mass Murder: Mark Stewart (On-U-Sound guru) and his long overlooked melange of reggae, tribal rhythms and early 80s Thatcher induced angst.

Thee Headcoatees were lost band of the week on my radio show last week and I saw them supporting Thee Headcoates at the Dirty Water club in Tufnell Park. Billy Childish - genius, that's why when I see Top 10's full of The Beatles and Oasis you sometimes have to say NO!!

Good to see a Carter USM album in a Top 10 not compiled by me!
