One for Harry - a certain Tommy Baldwin ! (And he was bl**dy useless!)

When did he play for the Fleet? I have my Chelsea who's who which list's every player to play for the club up until 1988. He scored 74 goals in 182 appearances for Chelsea.

The Fleet are listed but it doesn't say whether it was before or after he turned out for Chelsea.

I also have the Rothmans Football League players Records the Complete A-Z from 1946-1981 but it doesn't give much info about his career with us.

I also found info on our very first manager Andy Wilson (don't bother trying to ring him up FB, he died 32 years ago). I have his cigerette card which you may have seen on Whitebucket before it got redesigned.

The reason he is of a perticular interest to me is because he also played for Chelsea, in 1923. They signed him for 6,500 from Middlesbrough. At the time I think this was a record and he is a perticular favourite among many Chelsea historians for his loyalty towards the shirt.

I have a book on Chelsea (no bigger than a programme) of about 40 pages and Wilson gets his own chapter. It was published just after the war so Chelsea hereos were few and far between but from what I can make out of him he was the legend of his day. Not like the tossers that "honour" the shirt (don't forget to kiss the badge Frank) now days of course.

Captaining his country (Scotland) he scored 31 goals in one season for Middlesbrough which was a best for any player that season. Quite the superstar of his day then, although it's hard to say becuase in those days if you didn't like football you wouldn't be able to pick any footballer out of a one man line up; now days if you don't like football you could pick David Beckham out of a wheres Wally photo.

Wilson scored 62 goals in 253 appearences. He also shared his birthday with Charlie Mac despite being dead eight years before Charles was born.

If your thinking of puting an article together FB I have decent photos of both of them.

He did rather less for the Fleet - seven games, no goals in 1976-77. For those that haven't seen it, there's 120+ ex-Fleet players here: http://www.whitebucket.net/archive/

Going off at a slight tangent, Charlie Mitten deserves a mention in dispatches, if only for letting me put my beers on his room tab after the bar shut at the Manor bash a couple of years ago ! Class !

Cheers,

Talking of Tostao, I see hes still having problems returning to England !!

Meanwhile, Darts’ 2004/05 player of the year, Tostao Kwashi, finally arrived home in Zimbabwe after his coaching/playing exploits in Vietnam during the summer. But when he turned up at the airport to check in for his flight to England, to rejoin Darts, he had his ticket confiscated (the price was refunded) by immigration officials. It appears his Visa allows him entry to England for his graduation, which takes place in January.

This set back means the popular player will spend Christmas under the African sun. The saga of Kwashi’s return is set to continue running.

(From Non League Daily) - It could only happen to Tostao!
