Town 1 Wingate &F 1

lovely stuff

Recommended Posts

Well, my first visit to the Brimmobeu (which is looking great, well done everyone) for ages, and I thought it was a good game, with a lot of good football played by Town - some excellent flowing moves, and our goal was beautifully worked. Yes, we would have won comfortably but for the WF keeper - but that's what he's there for! Perhaps a little sharper finishing would help - I was sure Smithy would get a couple but off he went. We have only ourselves to blame, we let in a soft goal and failed to turn our superiority into goals, but that's football.

To be honest I though the ref had a good game. In the first half there was much baying at the linesman for his offside flagging, but I was standing on the same side and I am positive that he was correct every time. Some of the crowd seemed to forget that you are offside at the time the ball is played. The goal must have been disallowed for handball as there was clearly no offside. Should have been a yellow, as should the WF guy.

Bit unfair to pick out individuals but I am particularly impressed by Kieran Woodward. Steve Valendia is a superb passer of the ball, just my sort of player. We definitely need to use the full width of the pitch more though - this was more lacking as the game went on.

What happened to the floodlight at the tunnel corner .Only three of the lights were working on the pylon, and only one them was facing the goal.Very dark over that side of the pitch.

A bulb had gone? Maybe? Possibly?

Yes, I had meant to mention that. I very much doubt if the illumination was at therequired minmum level - the ref may well have abandionded the game.

The Ref did look up at the floodlights a few times during the second half, but, as the rest of the afternoon, did nothing !
I agree the lighting level was very very poor and must have been difficult to play in.

Harlow are building a new ground for next season. Could someone at the Club talk to them on Saturday and see if we could buy their existing lights to enhance Brimo lighting ? May get them at a good price ( what ever that is ).
Otherwise how much would it cost to upgrade the existing lighting ?

Looking at anything around the £30,000 - £40,000 mark for an upgrade of all the lighting. It's not an easy task.

All the more reason to see if there is some second hand gear coming on the market !
The alternative is "just" an upgrade.

No need for that. Just upgrade the lighting to what it has been for every other game at Brimsdown this season...Ie..add a couple of bulbs to the tunnel-end pylon to bring it up to the level it was before Mondays game.

I was answering Oldtowner's question as to how much it would cost to upgrade the system.

Yes it was dark at that end. It would have been interesting to see what the ref' would have done had another bulb gone out? Probably would have said, 'Ware's the light gone!'

Don't forget that the lights are Brimmo's and not ours.

Southport - with that lighting, could anyone see anyone, let alone me? But - ask Junior - I invested in a pair of 50/50 tickets.

Apart from the minor issue of cost, there is a matter of planning permission that is required to upgrade floodlights - depending on what the existing consent is, of course. No doubt this would not be popular with the neighbours - although it's unlikely that they would notice if they didn't know.

But I suspect that the illumination at present is below the permitted level.

Up to date installations are so much better than those from the 70's and 80's. The lighting levels are better, there is very little lighting overspill to upset the neighbours and replacement parts are easier to get hold of. Unfortunately, there is a cost implication as with most things nowadays.

Neither is the playing surface, but we have taken it upon ourselves to drastically improve that.I'm sure Brimsdown wouldn't mind if we installed a few extra bulbs.

Frank-en-Roy are on the case in terms of sorting the lighting issue which occured last night, which means I'm confident it will get resolved.
