Akk Jim - Midweek Matches

Whilst I am sure that I can do this myself, if necessary, having seen Jim's phenomenal abilities with numbers I thought that I would be lazy and "Ask Jim".

My question refers to the editorial in Non-league and Barry Fry's suggestion that non-league teams should forgo midweek matches and stretch the weekend. Barry bases his proposition on the fact that, apparently, conference games in midweek have 30% fewer fans attending than weekend games.

What I would be pleased to know is whether this relates to further down the non=league pyramid. Jim can you provide the average attendance for Saturday Fixtures as opposed to Midweek games? (Tuesday or Wednesday) I suggest that our Friday game is left out as that was a one-off experiment and may skew the result either way and anyway was it a mid week game or weekend game in the light of Fry's suggestion of "stretching the weekend."

Can the figures be broken down to Towners games at home/away and both home and away?

There that will keep you busy. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/doah.gif" alt="" />

On the face of it it does seem as though we loose a little support at home in the leak but is a difference of 10% for our home games and a no difference at all for our away games worth worrying about.

When a team is successful, like ours, even a wait of 4 days from Saturday to Wednesday can seem like an eternity between games and I would miss that thrill of anticipation of midweek matches which are never quite the same as the Saturday game.

Of course as we go up the leagues, as I expect we will, the travelling midweek can be tiresome however better arrangement of fixtures may make it easier. Derby Games midweek and long distance at weekend.

Anyway those are my thoughts and I have nearly finished my report.
