total unnecassary abuse. Did you ever stop and think that it was the referee that called the game off? even though maybe both sets of players/managers wanted to play it? Remind me that next time Crawley call off a match and the club officials say it is ok and that the ref calls it off, to come on your board and call you lot a 2 bob sussex outfit.

The county league eh?? Is that where you will end up in a few years time....
It was the refs decision, not the clubs. Maybe you should send the travel costs for him to pay, because he inspected the pitch too late????
Our club can't win with anyone these days. Home nor away fans. I fail to see why they even bother........

I think the problem Gordon is more the way this was handled than anything else - we can all accept that everyone bar the ref thought the pitch was playable, but its more that people could have been told something along the lines of " Its ok as far as we're concerned, but its pouring hard here and the ref may feel differently when he arrives", particularly in the latter part of the afternoon.

Equally, there needed to be more info available at the ground once it had been called off.

To leave people milling around outside without info, or to respond to even one supporters queries with (based on comments on this board) unnecessarily rude and abrupt answers (both on the phone and from car park attendants) is unacceptable. (That said, confirmation the game was off was on this board by 623PM, less than 15 minutes after the decision was made, and I would hope the BBC were also informed immediately. And to be fair, a Crawley fan also comments on their board that the GNFC official they spoke to at the ground was most apologetic).

Mind you, the last time we all raised concerns about the treatment of fans (the home game where the away fans were left out in pouring rain), it transpired that there were valid reasons for the situation, and we shouldnt wholeheartedly condemn the club until we are in possession of the full facts.

Whilst training on a pitch on which a match has been called off doesnt look good, there is a world of difference between playing a 90 minute game and training, particularly if training doesnt involve ball work, or can avoid one particular area of the pitch that caused concerns.

In my case, Jim, I know it was my fault that I didnt check if the game was on and I didnt mean to criticise the club for that.

Exactly Alan. The posts and messages from GNFC all through the day were that the pitch was perfect and the game was definitely on. We weren't even aware that an inspection would ever be needed.

Surely someone from GNFC could at least have said the 'pitch is very wet and the ref might want to take a look'.

Unlike Gordon who prefers to stick his head in the sand the club do share some responsibility, I complained the same when it happened at Crawley about three years back. Let's face at at our level of the game we need all the paying supporters we can get and to irritate people through cr@p communication and bad attitude is unlikely to do much.

To have the team training on the pitch when the match should have been going on (even though I accept it may have been wet in small places) seems the ultimate in poor customer relations.

Of course the referee called the game off but for the whole day your naive/stupid (delete as applicable) club officials decided that a pitch inspection wasn't necessary when clearly it was.

Had they arranged for a pitch inspection by a local referee earlier in the day, with the decision being it was playable, then my anger would not be directed towards your club when the match referee decided otherwise. The fact that no pitch inspection was made means that your club have been negligent.

So I will ask the question again. From whom do I claim my travelling expenses?

The point you are all missing though guys is that you can completely avoid the situation of last night by calling in a local ref of the correct grading to inspect the pitch at a sensible time and then confer with the match ref.

This almost guarantees that you have a 100% decision approx 2 hours before kick off and it also takes away the need for the match officials to travel and pay their expenses out of club funds. It only falls down if you hve freak weather in the interim period which is rare and certainly not the case last night.

Similar situation to that of the terrace behind the goal being shut suddenly. Again the safetly official (or a colleague) could have been called in beforehand to advise of what works need doing to ensure you pass the official inspection.

It wasn't done and we are where we are.

Maybe people start to need looking at who at the club actually knows what they are doing

Exactly. Rather than heads in the sand this ensures it doesn't happen again.

If you're really so determined to claim your travelling expenses, I'd suggest the rather obvious avenue of finding the club's phone number/address and contacting them that way, rather than repeatedly asking the question on an independent supporters' forum.

And you call us the pikeys? Unbelievable.
Don't forget to sign on for next week's giro, eh?

Ahhh, the wit of the forum. Ho ho ho. We don't do benefit fraud where I come from.

Perhaps complimentary tickets for the re-arranged game would be a nice gesture. There were 11 of us (at £10 a head) on our minibus filling the cash register of your local hostelry for 2 hours!

Of course, you wouldn't be annoyed at all if you had travelled for an hour AFTER BEING TOLD SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE DAY THAT THE GAME IS DEFINITELY ON AND THERE IS NO NEED FOR A PITCH INSPECTION, only for it to be called off when the referee arrived.

Is that not what I am asking? Maybe I wasn't clear enough.

An E-mail address will do fine thank you.

For those who need the question asked in a manner more suited to their intelligence:

"wats teh email addy of ur club oficce k thx"

Well now , lets see, perhaps yopu could just look at the Gravesend & Northfleet website and follow the instructions under contact us.

There you go - instructions for doing the bleeding obvious!!

Anyway, a big night out in the Plough is surely a treat for anyone living at the end of an airport runway.

Happy new year!!

I would suggest looking here on the official website, where there are various people you may want to contact, and their email addresses, if you click on the link

Yeah but don't bother with BoB Gunton - he'll just duck the issue
