i don't see anything wrong with a player waving to his supporters and sharing the same values.i'm going tell you a story now Slingo,not the one that you learnt from the history books.i'm lucky to still have my beloved father that is 82 years old and was a 20 years old during the ww2.he fought the nazis and the fascists nearly killed half of his family.a member of the communist party after the war when that meant you was on the other side of the people in power(so called DC or Democratic party)and getting kicked in the teeth if you was looking for a job.well one day,i asked him what he thought of Mussolini and i was amazed about what he said.Mussolini during his 20 years in charge did a lot of good things for the poor people:he drained swampy areas around Rome and gave this land to the great war soldiers returning home and to the populations living in the north east left homeless.a lot of rules and laws from that time still survive these days and a pension sistem was formed to help older workers.He then stopped and said:you know what he did wrong?he surrounded himself with "bandits" and industrialists that exploited his ideology to do as they please and at the right time they betrayed him.his biggest mistake was to go to war with hitler when the majority of italians didn't want to and waited 12 months for that.these were words from someone that risked his own life to fight Mussolini hangers-on and made me think a lot.i made my own history search about those twenty years and guess what i discovered? WE WON TWO WORLD CUPS,ONE OLIMPICS IN FOOTBALL AND at the olympic games in los angeles(1932)we won more golden medals than ever!not bad and i asked the same question to my mum-in-law(a protestant in those days) and my uncle(a keen communist) and both of them said the same thing!they added that Mussolini made everyone feel proud of being italian and he appropriated himself of all the symbols of the ancient Rome.The Roman salute was one of them,as the same the Roman eagle for those Roma supporters that won their first scudetto in 1941-42 at the expenses of communists LIVORNO because that's what Mussolini wanted(ROMA MERDA) <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bootyshake.gif" alt="" /> you see,sometimes history is not like you read in some history books... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/pipe.gif" alt="" />

you're obviously too emotionally up to your eyes in this one not to see how a fascist salute could be seen as anything other than great.

i'll just say that the WORLD CUPS and OLYMPICS that were won may have something to do with players being 'italianised' having played for other countries previously. this is why we have the rule of one choice for life, cup tied etc.

i agree with the point about di canio & the supporters of lazio. as a fan first & foremost, i would love for the captain of my team to have been one of us (himself having been an ultra) and share the same values, but the lazio fans values do seem a bit suspect.

di canio, when asked for comment after zoro was reduced to tears by inter's monkey chants said that there are all sorts of insults in football but everyone complains when a black man is involved....

after protests from jewish groups, (who may also have family involved in the war), regarding his latest 'roman' salute was quoted as saying "If we are in the hands of the Jewish community it is the end."

history is not always as in the history books, agreed, but that is no reason to disregard them.

as i said before the lazio budge is a roman eagle,symbol of the roman legions and what the fascists have done is making that salute their own when is not.it is a roman salute to every roman,like when they used to say "ave caesar".if the press and the italian fa want to use it for their own ends is down to them.the lazio supporters paid the fine on behalf of di canio and it was £65000.

the royal family is pretty much irrelevant. their duties are largely ceremonial and their only value to the country is to pull in the tourists and sell tabloid newspapers.

i'm not ignoring the people who died in the war, i was only asking a simple question about whether or not you believed the jews made up the holocaust. a yes or no would have sufficed, instead you chose to 'dilute' the six million deaths with victims of other atrocities in the war.

i think we're digressing a little. di canio's done the 'roman' salute 3 times now. lazio's support has been infiltrated by right-wing extremists, by saluting he's showing solidarity with these scum & you're defending him saying how much of a legend he is. i enjoyed him pushing the referee over and making barthez look a mug, but he's the mug now.

suggest we agree to disagree.
