Who knows anything about The Polyphonic Spree??

 

I've heard the name a lot lately but don't know anything about them. What sort of music do they do??

They are a big collective, about 25 of them. I think they may be a cult of some kind as they all dress in white robes(i'm being serious). Their music is hard to describe, the best I can do is 'alternative gospel'. if you watched the Q awards on telly you may have seen them performing their new single' hanging around'. it is very good and my description doesn't do them justice. if you listen to Xfm you're bound to hear them,as they played their last single 'soldier girl' loads.

Clint Boon said on my radio show that them and the coral are the most important bands around at the moment.

I've just heard the album and it's superb!! Second best album of the year.

 

Track 10 - how mad is that?? Thirty-six minutes of just white noise. Quality!!

They're pretty good, I haven't heard the album yet, though talking of hype and xfm, I keep hearing a song called 'Danger High Voltage' by The Electric Six (with Jack White on vocals), I like.

Yeah, I heard that Eelectric Six song and thought it was cool. Apparently the members have still got day jobs and one of them drives a school bus in America! SteveP, have you heard that song by Liam Lynch(?) called 'Whatever"? If so, what do you think of it, personally I like it on a 'novelty' level if you know what I mean. Also,that Libetines song is quality, saw them on Jools Holland and I may buy their album.

Thing I like about that track is the use of the sax, so many records get it wrong, but it's perfect there. Also having a soft spot for The White Stripes helps..

 

I've got the Libertines album, very good, 'Up The Bracket', love the song 'Get Along for the lyric, "some people tell me I'm wrong just singin' this song, f??k 'em!!", fantastic!! It's a bit like The Vines but not as good (that's no insult) have you heard 'Highly Evolved'??

 

I can't recall the Lynch song but have probably heard it, I've been missing the Joolsmeister recently, they really ought to do a 'Best of' DVD, it would sell like hot cakes.

I don't yet own 'Highly Evoloved' but I'm planning to do a 'stock-up' of CDs soon, once I get enough money, and that will probably be amongst them. I can't remember how the song goes but I know I like it!

I'm also getting to like The Coral,I thought they were a bit crap before,but now I like them.

I agree about the Jools Holland thing. Do you remember At The Drive In? I remember they played a set and when they played Invalid litter department(or whatever it's called) they went mad and started throwing chairs about and stuff-classic! Robbie Williams was on the same show,but nevermind.

It just goes to show Chubby, my music nouse is quickly exposed, I think I remember one where Robbie Williams was on and he did Angels, I guess it must have been that one, I would have remembered the whole smash up thing.

Libertines - v good

Vines - Excellent

White Stripes - Fantastic

Coral - Pretty damn good

Liam Lynch - Don't like it. Its bad enough that people actually say like whatever without it being lyrics in a song! Heard an interview with him yesterday saying that he just made it up as he went along and it took as long to write as it does to listen to! Quite Funny.

 

Anyway thats my humble opinion.
