To widen the debate, am I alone in thinking there is a relationship between the ommission of fans favourites and old timers such as Provs, Skins and Jacko and the declining interest in the team (as evidenced by the poor attendances)?

I would always prefer to watch a Fleet stalwart rather than a here today, gone tommorrow loan player.

Im of the same opinion as you Gary. Ive been a solid supporter for 17yrs now and this has been the season where ive had least interest when in reality this should be the season im most excited about because we're going full time. Ive thought about this long and hard and my reasonings behind this are as follows:

1) Im not convinced all the full time signings give a monkeys about the club, nor am i convinced Daish or Kimble do in the same way Andy Ford did. This means that if i dont see the same passion for the club from the top level my interest isnt so strong.
2) As mentioned before, we have no real structure to the team. Just a bunch of loan signings, take them away and what have we left.
3) Our facilities should have been sorted before we went full time. Its coming up to the year 2006 and we have a stadium that was at its peak 40 yrs ago. Football has moved on, stadiums have moved on even at our level. We're not going to attract new fans to come to the Fleet where they have to stand on a concrete step with holes in the roof, or sit in seats in the main stand which have enough legroom for a 3y old child or have to queue for 20 minutes to get a burger. People are going to go to Charlton or Gillingham as its all round a better standard. I know the club are looking to address this issue but it should have been done before we went spunking cash on talentless full time players. Im a firm believer that the club would've been in better shape had we done the ground first, even at the expense of dropping down a division. Improved facilities = Improved gates, the club can moan that not enough people are coming down but you name one club thats moved to a new ground and suffered lower attendances.
4)Crowd noise - The Dagenham game was like a morgue, obviously the fans arent too interested anymore either.
5)Alienation of Fleet trust and management. As a neutral who knows both sides (trust member and director) this is also not good for morale.

I guess he could be blamed for the first goal against Exeter.

After the Grays game someone started a thread wanting him out, I think. Quite a few agreed.

Charles Webster isn't exactly a fan of him either. He's said a few times "he's just not Conference quality."

He seemed to do ok for a bit, but it seems like he's always going to make these mistakes every now and again. I'd prefer to see Protheroe there. Protheroe set up many goals for us last season, I think some have forgotten this...

I cannot see why so many people moan about Scott Gooding. To be fair I think he has a had a few half - decent games this season and a some bad ones too! The mistake against Dagenham did cost us, but to me its James Smith who doesn't perform. He's to slow and some games he seems lost. You could say he cost us the daggers game!

So basically apart from Charle up front and maybe Bowry and Slatter in the middle, none of us really rate any of the players Daish has brought in .....

Ahem, everyone loves Ross Smith. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Really?

As for Gooding, he's not the worst player I've ever seen over 90 minutes. However, it's his errors at crucial times that are starting to cause us real problems.

Sad to say, Matt, that you may well have hit the nail on the head there.

Re the debate about loan players, we all forget that Provs was a loan player - but in his case you could tell at once he really wanted to play for the Fleet and gave 110% every game. No one was more pleased than me (except Provs himself) when he was offered the contract.

Now tell me which of the present batch on loan want to carve a future here for the next 2-3 years ?
