EFC 1 Town 2

lovely stuff

Recommended Posts

Town were poor today.Wastefull, disinterested and jaded ,but had enough quality to scrap through.EFC were spirited, but we should not have allowed them to cause us the problems they did.

Ps..Messege to our forwards: A local derby is NOT the time to waste four one-on-one's with the keeper.

The good thing about us was that we were playing a side which was poorer than ourselves. The first half was dominated by ETFC but the players began to showboat rather than play simple football.

What was said at half time God only knows because we let EFC come right back into the game and started playing at their level.

Rumour has it that Jim is saving his best side for Saturday. I do hope the likes of Richie, Baldwin and Stephens start rather than being on the bench or not being selected at all. All three players having played in a very successful team for the last three weeks.

Heard about the ETFC player who turned up at Ware yesterday to play? Must have heard the mad man on the mike say the game was on Boxing Day.

P.S. Top of the league again even after that performance.

Perfect summing up LS, but if we can play that bad and get 3 points all is not lost I suppose, why after 9 points out of 9 in our last 3 league games did the side get changed today?
We will certainly have to improve against Arsley on Saturday.

Well it was cold and the pitch was ok except in the shade of the stand where you needed a shorter stud. The Enfield FC team saw 15 different players/positions. EFc took the game to Town from the start but it was if I remember correctly Bryan Hammatt who was brought down into the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Rudi Hall stepped up and slotted it under the new diving keeper. He said he was previously a West Ham keeper I personally think he would have struggled to get a game for Barking and East Ham. Not the best start and his performance went downhill from there in the first half. Fumbling balls, miss-kicking. Yuk. Rudi Hall skied one over the bar. Chopper forced to save. On 26 minutes Trevor Paul ran through the centre of the defence with only the keeper to beat 0 – 2. It felt at this point that a cricket score was possible. So what did town do – sit deep and defend! What? Bryan Hammatt tried to chip the keeper just wide. Chopper forced to save at far post from a corner. EFC then tried a shot which was dipping under the bar but Chopper to the rescue. That is how you save a shot like that David Seaman. Then a striker broke through and had a 1 on 1 with Chopper. Saved. Chopper a hero again!

Half time and town didn’t feel comfortable but a2 goal cushion felt OK.

Bryan Hammatt had a shot saved. Johnny Morgan had a shot off target. Steve Velandia broke through the defence, Bryan Hammatt on the overlap, for Bryan Hammatt to fall over in the mud. A certain goal? Finally in the 55th minute Allinson took a corner that hit the far post and bounced in past Chopper. From here on Town were living on our nerves. Steve Velandia had a shot saved. KW on for SV. Bryan Hammatt 1 on 1 wiuth keeper for Keeper to clear. A solo effort from Keiron Woodward sailed just over the bar shame. Trevor Paul in 1 on 1 with keeper saved. Town sat deep and if Clarkee had been there I think we would have lost but 3 points and town move onward and upwards despite a poor performance.

These poor performances have got to be sorted out. But if we were playing against 15 men......

I take it then that at the corner from which they scored we did not have defenders on the posts? Almost every week on Match of the Day this is highlighted as some team lets in a goal from a set piece that way.

Come on Jim, get it sorted, I'm coming to the next two games!

I thought it was Paul Campbell who was fouled for the pen..and their goal was from a free kick not a corner !

Can anyone explain why Jim does this to us ?

We have had a few good wins with the SAME TEAM, but then it gets changed around and we stumble around.

A team who could shoot would have beaten Town by a few today !

Town were lucky to come away with the 3 points.

Okay we won....but there can't be a Town supporter who was there, that was happy with the performance, especially in the second half.

Can we "revert" to our winning team for Saturday please?

I am one of those supporters who would love to come to games but due to health and financial constraints I follow the team's fortunes through you all. Do we have a fairly large squad of palyers?

If so, could it be that Jim is using the rotation system that goes on elsewhere. Using this system is fine in keeping players happy, yet, at the same time leads to disjointed performances. This leads to supporters feeling let down.

Comments please!

Well, I am sure all Town supporters were disappointed by the disjointed performance and concerned by the second half performance, BUT, very pleased with the result and the continued winning away form, which has been fantastic.

We could/should have scored 5 or 6 in the first half.

I sure Jim will have his reasons for making these changes, BUT, it did not help the "team's performance today"

I felt it was a failry good first half performnace but we fell asleep at the start of the second. EFC are the worst oppponenets I've seen this season and I really cannot see them staying in this division unless something dramatic changes.

Some good saves from Chopper though.

what the heck does Jim say to these guys at half tine? whatever it is I wish he'd stop, the last 2 games we have been comfortable in the first half and cr*p in the second.

also if hammet is not a midfield player, what is he doing on the field, because he is no goal scorer, surely we can attract a stiker who knows how and when to shoot?

good result, yet another poor performance.

It was Campbell & the free kick they scored from was a replica of the Wabbey goal last season!

I agree with Happy that EFC were the poorest team we had met in this league so far, how Berkhamstead are 6 points behind them is a mystery, having played them twice & seen how competitive they are, either EFC have had a big dip in form or Berko raise their game 110% to play us.
