Brett Johnson

Personlly I think that good news - while I love Skins as a player I believe Johnson has been the successful loan signing. Sure against Daggers most players had an off-day & defenders made silly errors for the goals but they got little protection from a poor midfield.

The statistics for Johnson prior to Boxing day : 4 games undefeated, 3 clean sheets ( plus a hand in 2 of our goals) Take the Thurrock game out & you have 3 tough on paper encounters against Crawley (A), Morecambe & Burton (A, at stand-in centre-half) - 7 out of 9 points !

Indeed - Brett looks a reasonable player. The point is, he's probably of a similar standard to Skins. What's going to be better for the team in the long run - a long-serving player committed to the club at left-back, or a loan player whose length of stay at the club is unclear?

But no better than Skins and certainly not a long term improvement.

Nor, committed to the club like Skins "was"

The murmour round the terraces on Boxing Day, from some fairly reliable inside sources, was that all our long standing guys like Skins, Jacko, Saunders and Proths have had enough of the current set up and are ready to move on and get regular football elsewhere where players are judged on ability and not on their availability to train during the day.

If this proves to be the case then I for one consider that Daish has definitely got a major weakness, at least three of these players are Fleet through and through and are wholly commited to the club, so if Daish wants to be unbending in his desire to go wholly full time that he's willing to discard these players then it's blinkered and short sighted.

If he wants to take the club further he must take the commited players with him, I accept that in Skins and Jacko you have two guys who are now the wrong side of thirty but they have at least a couple of seasons left in them, and with their possible feel for the club could go on to do work behind the scene later, just a thought.

At the risk of repeating myself from an earlier thread where does this leave Steve McKimm as he falls into this category? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

this is what was in the press release:

Due to a growing list of injuries at Northampton Town, Manager Colin Calderwood has unfortunately found it necessary to recall Brett Johnson.

Brett was in the second month of his loan period and FA rules permit his recall at any point after his initial 28 day period.

Liam Daish says “This is a blow particularly as we have lost the services of Andy Drury, Jay Saunders and Jimmy Jackson over the past couple of days. It should however give one or two others who have been waiting patiently in the wings the opportunity to get back into the starting line up”.
