As per desire for news, not rumour, on new stadium the following is taken from www.thisisessex.co.uk:

Soccer: Crunch time for stadium plan

Ambitious plans to develop a new soccer stadium complex in Gloucester Park are due to come under the spotlight next month.

Bosses at Billericay Town Football Club and partners Stadia Management have dramatically revamped their proposals for an 8,000 capacity stadium and leisure centre.

Now councillors are set to make a decision on the proposed £12million development, which would take up a patch of scrubland in the corner of the park in Basildon.

Supporters and opponents of the scheme are expected to cram into a council meeting planned for Wednesday, November 6, in the Basildon Centre, St Martin's Square, to hear if the plan is given the thumbs up or is kicked out.

Billericay Town chairman Rod Moore said the stadium consortium is ready to present the plan to council decision-makers.

Mr Moore has pointed out the new design would ensure the area retains "all its natural features" and leave 245 acres of the park unchanged.

An eight-lane swimming pool, fitness centre and hotel still feature in the scheme, which aims to make the complex a "focal point for community sport".

In view of the visceral opposition to this project from residents in the town is this really the way forward for an excellent side to progress their future development. Does this project really have a central focus on BTFC or certain involved parties bank balances? Rushden &Diamonds showed the way forward many years ago I think and used a site which was supported by two different communities with little opposition. It was at times a bumpy ride but they did get there and have done well with support from both the originating towns - Rushden were the oldest club by a huge margin and Irthlingborough Diamonds - a post war team - have provide the site in the shape of an unused waterlogged meadow previously owned by the local Electricity Board. the current scheme is akin to building a mosque in Golders Green and having Bin Laden as Imam!

Perfect example of the bloody arrogance that has fueled such derision.(Scrubland my [****!!****]!!!! that is a major park on which many children play. You really do not get it) Reminds me of Marie Antoinette "no bread let them eat cake"
