Views on new signings

I was just wondering what the regular fans think of the new signings so far this season? Saturday was the first game I'd got to this season after seeing about a dozen matches last season, so my first chance to have a look at the new lads. I thought Kwashi caused some real problems on the right, Strouts looked useful, but wasn't sure whether Barr was really getting stuck in enough.

 

Also, haven't seen much of Wilkerson in goal before, but thought he had a great game.

 

What's the view on the new lads, then?

Wilkerson is so far, most peoples player of the season, hes superb. Tostao is our most skillfull player, can do all sorts with the ball. Strouts has added himself to the team brilliantly, helps out in Mckimms role. One of my favourites is Sturgess, shame that when both fit he will have to fight for a place with Skins, because they are both quality. As far as Hamid Barr goes, we have only really seen him for three games now and its not good to judge over a short space of time, but i think he is definitely good enough.

Its hard to discuss the players on here because, without trying to sound out old cliche's, All the players are doing a great job. Cant fault the old heads of Jacko, Che, Liam, Matt L, etc.

 

We can start winning again, even with the injuries, because we have a massive team spirit. Come on you reds...

Whats happened to Rio Alderton? Havent seen any mention of the guy, and hes not got a squad number, since he apparently signed for us back on 3 October. Given our injury problems, I would have thought he would have at least got on the bench?? Has he been injured/didnt he make the grade/ didnt he actually complete his signing?

 

Would someone be good enough to clarify, please??

My interest is not as a Gravesend fan, but just as a Non-League 'follower' covering Kent & Sussex. In the course of this I have recently seen Gravesend several times both home & away.

 

I believe the undoubted success of Gravesend (in getting to the Conference + a good start) has been built on a very high-work rate plus considerable skill and quick team movement.

 

I would congratulate Andy Ford on new signings Sturgess, Strouts, Bentley and Kwashi. Lew Watts is not really up to Conference requirements but is whole-hearted and has admirably filled-in for those injured. The poor signings, in my opinion, would be Austin Berkeley (now signed by Chelmsford - Paul Parker) and recent signing Hamid Barr. Both of these players, although having some skills, do not suit the Gravesend style. They both have one thing in common - they are 'poseur' players and have neither the work-rate or team effort which is characteristic of Andy Ford.

As Ive said before Im never to keen to single out players from the team as a whole, but I thoroughly agree with what you've said there. Barr and Berkeley, are/were not quite the forcefull and hard working, type of Fleet player. I hope to this extent Barr does put himself about a bit more, Im sure he will settle. Andy has done a great job on probably the smallest conference budget, long may it continue.
