Loan players

Looks like we are not only negociating to extend the loan periods for Brett Johnson and Omari Coleman we will be trying to sign them and Bradley J in January. They are all quality IMO and to get any or all of them would be fantastic news. It would also be a major step towards a complete full time squad <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" />

The move towards a 100% full-time squad is progressing rather faster than I originally expected, and one does have to wonder what impact this has on club finances, given the likely reduction in sponsorship money next season and the fall in attendances. If you think about it, almost all the clubs being full-time at the fifth level of English football is a pretty bizarre state of affairs that we have reached. Presumably it can be mainly put down to more sides falling out of the league (i.e. full-time ones), thus making the rest feel pressurized into going full-time too. Either way, it's only natural to be concerned if you ask me.

On that point, as it looks as if Daish appears to be favouring the Full-time players more in recent games, where does that leave Mckimm when he does eventually return, I know that he will not automatically regain his place in the team let alone the captaincy, and I am assuming that he will remain a part-time player, so food for thought?

I agree, there really has been a major turnaround in thinking in this area.

It wasn't that long ago, when the ITV football deal collapsed, that so called experts were predicting that clubs in division 2 and 3 of the Nationwide League would have to either go part-time or face the serious possibility of going out of business, let alone clubs in the Conference. The worrying aspect is that most clubs finances have probably got worse due to lower attendances etc etc., not better since then, yet more are going full-time.

Years ago the analogy being used was that football clubs could be compared with a 'deck of cards', It only needed one to 'fall-over' or go bust and a lot would follow. Lets all hope that that prediction does not come back to haunt us!

Merry Christmas.

Should be returning soon - as you say it will be interesting to see how many of the "part-time" players are still around by the end of the season:

On the other hand, G&N appear to be leading the chase for Mark Saunders (ex-Gills) who is thought to only want part-time football:

Maybe its a case of if they good enough they play, regardless of whether they are part or full time.

The mention of 'insurance payments' in the article implies he'll have to be part-time.

That's what we were told in the summer, but so far no new part-timers have joined.

To be honest, even if he reaches the standards he set before his injury, McKimm will struggle to depose either Jay or Bobby on merit. This again raises the issue of football captaincy, which can lead to players obtaining and maintaining first team places based purely on their possession of the captain's armband, regardless of the quality of their play. It'll be interesting to see Liam's solution when Macca does return to full fitness.
