A view from (slightly) afar

Hello All. I’ve been an Enfield fan since 1991 and an Enfield Town fan since formation and moved to Chelmsford earlier this year having got married and done various family duties, etc. From watching 35-40 games a season I now watch around 10, and am more likely to be found at midweek away games in Essex. You can easily feel out of the loop when you go to games at London APSA and Redbridge!

Anyway, enough of my rambling! Apart from the Redbridge replay I’ve probably missed the poorer end of our performances but I wanted to commend Jim and the lads on reaching the top position in the league. Having been promoted I think it’s a fantastic achievement to get there. This division has a number of good teams and unlike the Essex Senior League, the gulf from top to bottom is not as wide. Some teams scrap like hell and I can understand the frustration at flowing football not being as regular as fans would like.

What of the rest of the season? Automatic promotion would be lovely but I feel like I daren’t tip us for the top two so it’s the play-offs for me. That would present a quandary as finishing third would mean playing the two matches at home! So I hope we finish 1st, 2nd or 6th! There will be games before but I look forward to Chelmsford v Enfield Town at their new Melbourne Park home in the Ryman Premier League next season.

Best wishes for the festive period and all that the rest of the season holds.

Hello Essex Fan. Your post made interesting reading as I am also an Enfield Town fan living in Chelmsford. I saw my first Enfield FC game in 1992 against Aylesbury in the FA Cup and over the years became a regular both home and away. Like you I have been an Enfield Town supporter since formation. I get to most Saturday games and several midweek fixtures as well.

Regarding the quest for promotion this season, finishing in the top two is a tall order but I think that has to be the aim. As was mentioned in the programme on Saturday, we have seen nothing to be frightened of this season and, when results have gone against us, we have contributed to our downfall with individual mistakes or collective errors. If we can stay switched on for 90mins in our matches I think we can make a top two finish a reality.
