v East Thurrock United

Red Neck

Recommended Posts

Highlight of the game...

...the tea hut ran out of cups (allegedly they were expecting 150 Fleet supporters).

First half, numerous corners, all played to the near post and hoofed away. Three or four shots on goal, one off the lefthand post. An ignored shout for a penalty early on for an elbow in the face, for us. Oh! And a goal, bundled in by James Smith just before half time.

Second half a little better, more football on the ground, hence MacDonalds goal. Eventually degenerating back to the dull rubbish we've been playing lately.

Artic conditions today, especially being that far north. Overall a win, but not very inspiring, and glad to be back in the warm.

We have the players, we have the Chairman, we have the Board of Directors, we have the supporters, we have the potential. All we need now is a manager who knows what he's doing and has the respect of the players, but you can't have everything.

hee Hee ' We have the supporters ' who you tring to kid. We are in the bottom few conf clubs in regards to attendances, and already are punching above our weight. Until that improves we have little potential regardless of who the manager is. But it shouldn't stop us trying.

Didn't look "bundled in" to me.....ball from the right, clipped in with the right foot I think....where were you standing ? I was right behind the goal...although I did not catch the replay on the big screen !

Like him or not, and I still have some reservations, one thing is plain for all to see - Liam have put a bit of steel into the defence and toughen the mental approach to games so as not to throw them away.

The fact is we ARE getting good results, and are not conceding that many.

Our style may not be that pretty, but teams like E Thurrock are not going to lay down and die, so a 2-0 result was highly satisfactory.

Do I sense another good FA Trophy run coming on. Who knows - final this year?

anyone know what the attendance was as they didnt even have a pa system!!!

There was a rather crackly speaker next to the tea bar, from which I gleaned the nugget of information that 'Paul McCartney' was playing for us today. The attendance, according to today's NLP, was 381, by the way.

There was certainly more play on the floor than in many recent games, which was nice to see, although it's hard to draw wider conclusions from a performance against a side two levels below. Still, job done, and nice build-up and finish for the second goal.

Also, good to see Liam use a classic footballing cliche in his post-match description of East Thurrock United.

This is particularly promising given the fact that the centre-back pairing has had to change quite a bit lately, but without any huge change in the number of goals conceded. Five clean sheets in the last six games (and yes, I am including the KSC <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />) now.

Well, I know that, given our poor record in the competition, I won't be getting my hopes up.

At the moment we are 5 games unbeaten, 10th in the league and into the next round of the trophy. What more can you ask for? I think this alone shows that Daish has some idea as to what he is doing....

I think its the oppsosite to the above. Players and management need a little more respect from SOME of the fans....

Is this record stuck on repeat play? The same was said of Andy Ford.

Clearly to say that Liam doesn't know what he's doing full stop, given current results, is unreasonable and incorrect. But questions nonetheless have to be asked about the present reliance on loan players, which will of course necessitate more fiddling about of the squad when the loans expire, which is always a risky business. This is a particularly significant issue given the rather confusing absence of Skins and Jacko from the first-choice XI of late, despite them having done nothing wrong and having been virtually ever-present for the first twenty games or so.

Skins and Jacko from the first-choice XI of late,

Think the brothers Johnson look good on the left hand side for us, and are a step up. but as you say its a short term solution which could backfire, but I think it does signal the fact that Liam likes the taller player.

we don't always know the facts behind players being dropped, (and for good reasons we don't need to know) , so it may not be as confusing as you think.

In an ideal world of course all of our stars would be replaced by someone younger and better, I know I am biased but I just don't see Jacko and Skins being ready for replacement yet.

I am still thinking it may be a part-time/full-time thing although I understand that Jacko, thanks to a very understanding boss, isn't very part-time.

Whatever the reason for Liams team selection it is hard to argue with the results over the past month and as for the brothers Johnson loan period coming to an end Essendoh, Manny and Proths all came on loan initially and stuck around for awhile so it would not come as a huge surprise if one or both of them sticks around.
