Real Beer

I've just ordered a polypin of real ale for my work party from AVS, the beer wholesaler on the canal basin industrial park, owned by Phil who owns the Crown & Thistle. Less than £1.40 a pint for 36 pints of White Horse Oxfordshire Bitter. Surely we could try out 3 or 4 diferent varities of these polypins for the club bar on one match days & bang them out at £2 per pint. How much better value is that than £2.50 for sickly caramelised pop, especially now the Plough seems to have stopped bothering with the real stuff?

 

Am I f*rting in a thunderstorm here, p*ssing into the wind, or is this a possibility in the age of brewery deals, official lists & sundry other regulations set by boys in suits who can only talk of brands & profit margins & wouldn't know a pint of real ale if it jumped out & grabbed them by what they haven't got between their legs?

GK IPA in the bar today.

Not bad ... Strange set up, more local fans in the bar watching WHU than in the ground. Showing live premiership games in the bar is unlikely to persuade them to part with tenners to enter the ground. But I suppose still taking money over the bar helps.

 

But always drink Shepherd neame on a saturday night when we have beaten our essex foes.

Well said! Sad to say I never use the bar at Stonebridge Road because as a real ale drinker there is nothing on offer I care to drink. Getting a polypin or 2 in would be a great idea, or are we tied to a supplier who will only offer fizz?

It's also illegal at 3pm on a Saturday in Britain, of course.

Not any more, jc, until a court case involving Sky, a major brewer and al jezzera tv has been heard and I'm not taking the pee here. Until a ruling has been made pubs can apparently show whatever games they want, whenever they want on any channel they want.
