Hopefully Brimsdown will have a decent ground in the next couple of years and, if we are still there, ETFC and the ESL will also benefit from that.

well they should have earnt a few quid from visting us earlier this season in the LSC 1,518 crowd with receipts shared, hope they can do some good with their share, i'm not sure how much that would have been, i believe expenses are taken out b4 receipts are split 45% each with 10% to the competition organisers(probably why we were drawn at home all except for the final), the thing that clouds our profits is the money we pay extra for cup games, we worked out we need 1100 people attending a cup game just to break even on the night. <img src="/forums/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" />

i see no mention of frenford senior above, are the not in the essex senior league also? can anyone tell me what their ground is like? how many it can hold? we are drawn away to them in the cherry red books trophy sometime early next year, is the game likely to be switched to cater for around 800 away fans? where nearby are they likely to switch it to if they must?

I have to agree with you about this ground Neil- The first time I went there I was impressed by the backdrop with the old railway works.MK city play here now, although the ground has not be kept to the same standard as it was 15 years ago, and the stand is in poor condition. My favourite away ground is probably St.Albans(shame the tree is long gone)

When it comes to talking about grounds, the Ferndale, late lamented home of East Ham United is always worth a mention. After years of rumour, the final day came one wet Saturday afternoon with Brentwood the visitors. I recall the League Chairman, in the Centre Spot said that he had arrived at the ground, with the Treasurer, about 1.45 pm and there was already a man on the "gate". The Chairman and Secretary oF Brentwood arrived. Of course, the teams were there , Reuben Gane and Ted Whatmough were doing all the necessary pre-match bits and a press photographer turned up at 2.30 ... so what's this all about, well, all these individuals had Match Passes . The "gateman" gave up at 3.15pm and NO ONE ELSE came in the ground, thus, the paying attendance at their last game was..... 0 . So, for a new thread, can anyone beat that ?

I can't beat that, but I have been to a league game at Scot FC of the SML in which me & a mate were the only people to turn up. Not bad considering it was free to get in!

Also come to think of it, the paying attendance for Enfield's last game (official) at Southbury Road would also be 0, but of course there were 100's there.i'm sure they're will be tonight at St. Albans as well!

Oh I remember it well ! Our scribe has a good memory but I recall the weather was very pleasent and the pitch, in latter days , was nigh on perfect. One other tit-bit was that the photographers film broke down on him so there is no visual record of this momentuos day, though I have one of the ground that has now been developed into housing. Brentwood stayed behind after, in the clubhouse but, in fact, no-one actually knew that it was the last game until the East Ham supremo's declared it to be so, during the following week. It was also the ground where a game was abandoned due to the Vietnam War. They were filming on Beckton Gas Works and the smoke blew over Ferndale and nearly choked everyone ! Oh happy DAYS !

What about the grounds that bring back the most happy memories - I'll start off with a lovely little place at West Street Coggeshall, home of Coggeshall Town and still, I understand, played on, but it never had lights and, at one time, a phone but, it had a country character about it and the pitch was excellent. Poor Coggs were whipping boys and in one season they only scored 9 goals in all competitions with one player netting 7 , a record that could well stand to this day ! In season 1971-72 Pegasus played at the Greyhound Stadium in Southend which is now a Matalan store. Not that you could call that Stadium pretty but its always sad to see a "Real" football stadium pulled down. Stambridge was a lovely pitch and nice folk but it couldn't be fenced in but the joy of watching Alan Brazil there in one season was too much to bear - as the Chairman says .. Oh Happy Days !

I recall Romford playing an FA Cup match at Clacton's old ground, which also had a greyhound track around it. Within a few minutes of the start, a linesman fell down a hole near the touch line and broke his arm. The only replacement to be found was - the chairman of Romford's Supporters Club, who duly flagged offside for Boro's best attack of the afternoon!
