Depressed, but trying to be philosophical

Not wanting to do a Margate (as in last May) & there is a bit of a difference between 0-5 & 1-2, but I think we all knew where we stood as soon as we saw the team. Yes, they had players missing in defence, too, but we only had one of the back four in his 'correct' position & he went off injured before 1/4 of the game was played. It was always going to be a case of keep them on the back foot & hope to get a goal or two before they settle. With no Liam up front, we were doubly handicapped - he won everything in the air at their place in the KSC final.

As it was, like last week, it all went pear shaped in a matter of minutes: a lack of concenteration from a long throw (not helped by the twat who caused the confused delay, throwing the ref into a tiz, by tossing something onto the pitch); followed by the linesman deciding to text his mum at the critical moment, only to look up to see the former Genesis 'singer' apparently yards offside (but, whoops, where was he when the ball was kicked, er I dunno...Mummy, any ideas?)

I was concerned to see Rob Owen struggling on when obviously injured & was Mark Bentley fit to come on, when we'd been led to believe he'd be making his comeback in the reserves next week? I also heard he was shunted on the M25 on his way to the game & someone had to go & collect him.

Still, for the most part, it was an enjoyable game - either side could have won, until that mad couple of minutes when one goal & a man in black howler were conceded. Can't blame Margate for the linesman's mistake. Thought their fans were pretty good - loud but amiable in The Plough which they took over before the game.

Still, as others have said, roll on Boxing Day & the return of Liam, Justin, Nick, Aaron & Francis to full fitness.

Well you know how every BlueBoy and gurl felt like in the 5-0 win you had over us last season. You see you just had the same problem as us. No strikers and half your team away or injured. Now you know how it feels to get beaten and laughed at . [color:"blue"] [/color]

Yes - some of our fans did crow a bit, last May, but I think that was largely as a result of some pre- match claims on this site, by some of your less sensible followers, who set themselves up for ridicule, when the result went against you.

Personally, at the time I didn't laugh, though I was delighted with our win. I was also disappointed with what I saw as an attitiude problem with some of your players. Possibly I was mistaken, because they certainly had the right attitude yesterday and took their chances much better than we did. We didn't play at our best, for a number of reasons, but all things considered, I thought there were two decent, evenly matched teams on show yesterday, neither of whom should worry about not being good enough to survive life in the Conference.

Good luck at Leyton Orient. I think you've got a great chance. We'd love to be havbing a crack at them.

Apparently - according to a GNFC official - in the bar after the game even the Margate players were acknowledging the goal was offside.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we start with a flat back four and when Sturgess went off reverted to three at the back? I thought it was only a matter of time before Margate outfoxed us at the back. I'd have rather had Jacko slot into left back as poor old Matt Lee was all over the place trying to cover.

That's certainly how it looked to me. I thought we started with a back four, then when Sturg went off it appeared that Mark Bentley was pushed into the LB area....?!

Why we couldn't throw Jacko back there and play four across the back is beyond me. Matt Lee had a bit of a `mare back there which is a shame as he usually looks so comfortable.

Thought Wilko played really well (both of them??!!) How can we distinguish between the two?

Paul is our best buy of the season - no idea why SB wanted to relieve themselves of him? And Craig has always been one of my favourites.

How he wins most of the headers he goes for is a mystery to me?!

Wilko would do well to play up front as an aerial target in the absence of Liam, but then who else do we play at centre-back?

Great to see Mark Bentley back...hope he'll be firing on all cylinders for the rest of the season he just looks class.

Anyway, bad result, bad first half, bad decisions.....

BUT, great team, great attitude, great manager, great fun

Lets have some more boys!! Keep it up Andy even if it does mean from the stand (a truly awful decision!)
