Conference seek promotion change

I don`t think they mentioned us in their last emails <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> We are not pushing for promotion (boo) or fighting relegation (yeh)or involved in any crowd trouble so what could the write <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/chat.gif" alt="" />

Going back to the original post i don`t think the Conference is a strong enough league at the moment to really push for another promotion place.

No, but i bet if they get the go-ahead in 18 months time, every club will be given a maximum of say 3 years to get themselves full-time so to be able to compete with the rest of the league in compliance with the FA ruling.

So we have about 4-5 years to consilidate in the Conference and maybe start competeing near the top and then we will be ready for full-time. We should also have a new ground by that time as well, eh?

There are a few teams in div 2 who if reports are true are running on empty, if Torquay go down the rumour is they will fold and i`ve heard the same about Macclesfield. Crowds in div 2 are down 13.6% even with Carlisle going back up, Torquay`s attendance is down 23.4% which would have a huge impact on any club let alone one facing relagation from the league.

Conference crowds are down also but not by as much (8.3%) and i think you can put a lot of that down to Carlisle going up but Kidderminster are down 32.2% which for a club already in finacial trouble has got to be a worry. Aldershot made a loss last season and they averaged over 2500 (down 21.1% so far this season) plus they have a lot of other incomes so it`s not hard to imagine how much other clubs are losing and that can`t go on for ever.

Fulltime football is not viable for most clubs in our division and sooner rather than later they will have to revert back to part time or go bust.

It's a vicious circle. More promotion places will lead to more excitement, interest and as a result better attendances. Clubs though may spend beyond their means to achieve promotion. Look what happened at Hornchurch for example.

The answer I reckon is to make the Conference part of the football, league. The whole stigma of only being a non league club will be gone, and realistically is the standard that far off the football league anyway?

So there is some good to come out of every situation!

No i don`t agree with that, we are playing in this league because we have earned the rite to. If we want to be a league club then we have to earn that rite as well, it should be hard to become a league club.

As for the standard of football, on our day i think we could give any div 2 side a game but we couldn`t do it every week and neither could most teams in our league.

I don't think it's beyond reason, by any means, to be asking for a third promotion place for the Conference, because before long I think the league will be stable enough to shed it's non-league title and make up the fifth division.

However, if it were my decision, I wouldn't let it happen quite so simply. I think that there are far too many teams in league football at the moment. I don't think any league should exceed twenty teams, but at the moment they do. I'd theoretically relegate tweleve of the third division clubs so that all divisions from Premier to Three contain twenty teams, then promote eight Conference clubs to join them.

Simple. It'd really upset every club likely to get relegated by the newly created division, but at the end of the day it'd make each league more competitive, because I'd still have a four-up, four down between every league.

I think the whole non-league system needs wiping out and re-writing too, but I shan't go into that here.

If they were to fully bring the Conference into the Football League set-up all that will happen is another league will replace it, then the new league will push for more promotion places and it will just go on and on.

I believe we already have more professional clubs in the UK than any other country, is there enough interest/money to sustain these clubs plus 20 more?
