Gladwish

Just saw this on Whitstable's site regarding Victor Gladwish pulling out of the sponsorship of non-league football at all levels. I assume this includes the Fleet too. Has GLS paid the sponsorship money to us up front, or are we now out of pocket??

"Whitstable Town Football Club are delighted to announce that the clubs main sponsor will be D&J Tyres for the remainder of the 2005/06 season. Chairman Tony Rouse breaking the news: “It is great news that Joe Brownett and his family through their company D&J Tyres are renewing their support of Whitstable Town. We have been very lucky to have their support over the many years the family have been associated with the club and Joe has agreed to carry on helping the club after the sudden departure of Victor Gladwish’s company, who are to cease their funding of football at any level”

This came about after what Gladwish said was: “The unacceptable way I was treated by a club last weekend.” His decision leaves many other football clubs without a sponsor and is in no way a reflection on the relationship between Gladwish and Whitstable Town, which has always been cordial and business like. Indeed Victor’s brother Paul, who is a valued member of the committee stays at the club.

Would be a real shame and a serious problem for Fleet. I always thought we looked after Victor very well, and always treated him to some good hospitality and entertaining football.

Perhaps he means sponsorship in the lower echelons of non-league football instead of us, who are now a virtually full time outfit, and getting increasing (but nowhere near enough) publicity.

Mr Gladwish has always been a staunch and valued supporter of non-league football, as testified by his many visits to Stonebridge Road, but at the end of the day, he is still a businessman, after making publicity and money, so who can blame him if he feels let down by certain quarters?

If he does pull out of our deal, it is regrettable, and would cause a deal of financial realignment, but life would go on.

to put his sponsorship into perspective, I understand it was approx £50,000 for each of 3 years totalling £150,000.

If Victor were to pull out now, with a half season left, this would equate to £25,000 for the remainder of this season divided by 11 home games = £2272 lost per game.

To recoup this lost money we would need a gate increase of 189 full paying adults per game.

Although the loss of Mr Gladwish's money, if it happens, would cause problems, they would not be insurmountable.

Stands back and waits for his maths to be shot bown in flames by Dave H and JC. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Presumably any sponsorship deal we have/had will be covered by a contractual arrangement that would ensure outstanding monies were still payable until any get out clauses could be activated.

I thought that we had a 3 year deal rather than an annual arrangement with renewal options and therefore there may be some security within the contract in any case.

However this is bad news in the longer term as being the top ranked club in the Gladwish portfolio I had hoped that we would have been the one he might want a long term relationship with in any case. If it is true he has pulled out of further sponsorship it could be a big loss.

I seem to remember that the Reporter were very good in standing aside when Mr Gladwish suddenly appeared on the scene and have continued with their excellent coverage (grovel, grovel, creep, creep) maybe they will step back into the breech.

As has been stated above I suppose how immediate the impact is will depend on whether we have received the sponsorship money upfront or not.

New shirts anyone?

Was there really such a major problem at the weekend (how can he tar all non league clubs with the same brush?) or was it just an excuse as a result of financial difficulties?
