So............on the basis of all these posts you'll all be getting in touch with your local Referees Association to let them know you can do the course and be better than those you watch every week

I'm sure they'll welcome you with open arms

I've done the course and referreed and lined local matches.

But at least I packed it in when I couldn't keep up with play.

This isn't just the regular moan about cr*p officials.

This idiot cost us a small fortune because he wasn't up to running the line at this level.

I just think that referee's probably naturally make mistakes every game, but these vary on size and impact. If say referees make 10% mistakes every game, then a few weve had this year, especially on Saturday and notoriously against Stevenage, have been at 20-25% mistakes. Should we accept that the referee is more than likely going to spoil the game for one of the two teams involved and the game becomes less of the two teams abilities against each other and based more on the liklihood of a bad decision?

Yes we have to....even when the referee is wrong his decision is final. If the ref was any good he wouldn't be doing a conference match, the ones we get are going to make mistakes, sometimes those mistakes will cost us matches sometimes they gift us something we don't deserve either way there's no appeal we just have to live with it.

Yes, I said that most referees make mistakes but how can they justify getting worse and worse. Do we accept falling standards in refereeing just because the referees decision is final. If the ref wanted to go on a wind up and produce red cards for fun as a joke, then we would accept it because the ref is always right. I think there has to come a point where particular performances are judged, as the refs have got worse since last year.

If the assessment system is operating correctly then then we sholudn't see the 'assistant' in question ever again. However, I have my doubts because as soon the Referee's Secreatry is short of officials he will be wheeled out again as if nothing has happened.

I suspect that too many officials have got further than their talents should have allowed because they make themselves popular with the governing bodies by being available at short notice etc.

Believe me it happens!!

As a former ref on the local parks (And a passionate supporter) I have mixed opinions on this. Nationally there about 4,500 refs short, which means those perhaps less capable of doing the job are moving up the ladder, bacause , quite frankly there is nobody else to do it. It really is that simple unfortunately.

I had to pack up due to an old back injury rearing it's head and I watch plenty of footy now. Yes, officials do get it wrong - but trust me it is not the easiest job in the world.

As a previous person said, if you are that concerned you can always try and qualify and show everybody how to do it !!

Incidentally, hadball is NOT automatically a yellow card offence. It is a popular misconception that it is, however this is not the case.

Up the fleet !!!

with regards to segregation, we (MFC) have half a dozen "fans" who would start a ruck at the merest whiff of a chance, this has yet to happen in the ground, although we did have a minor incident last season when Stevenage visited. There was also some minor disturbances in the town when Doncaster Rovers came to the seaside! Good luck at Halifax, we're off to Scarborough for the weekend cheers
