Big bang where I live (5 miles away) but no damage and no smoke as were due North. Went over St Albans lunchtime and it was like nuclear winter over there, sun blotted out and about -5 degrees.

A workmate of mine lives right next door to the oil plant.

 

He spent Saturday night in Wimbledon though, a good 40 miles away, where he was woken at 6am by a loud bang!

 

How he must have laughed when he found out said bang originated from his back garden!!

A father of one of the U15s at rugby yesterday sent a text to Radio 5Live:

 

"6.10 am in St Albans, and the house shook. I woke my wife Debbie and asked whether the earth had moved for her. "No" she replied, sleepily. Nothing new here, then!".
