Romford F.C Forum.

Recommended Posts

Dear all

Romford Football Club have with regret, taken to decision to discontinue their forum. The club considered that continuing the forum exposed the club to a too greater risk to it's good name. It has become increasingly difficult to police the forum 24hrs a day.

Anybody wishing to develop an alternative forum should contact Ian W to check the suitability of what such a forum could be named which would need represent that is no way connected with or supported by Romford Football Club.

The club would like to thank all those who have positivley participated in the forum and welcome their continued interest in Romford Football Club.

well I have to say that thats the biggest load of bull I have ever read....what good name are you referring to as you've had quite a few...

seems to me that someone at that club is doing everything possible to alienate it from the essex football community...that forum has been trundling along for 4 years now and has never been a problem from where I was viewing...the forum didn't need closing...zody did....

or perhaps there is a bigger agenda which requires censorship of the fullest degree and you can't get more heavy handed censorship than taking the forum off...

this is non league football not the champions league....

my sympathies to the real romford fans who are welcome as always on our forum...

I suspect that Cantos is closer to the truth than imagined. Enfield Town ran into some difficulties a few years ago when some views were expressed about others that could not be substantiated when they had their week or so at the Royal Courts of Justice. The result of the defamation cost them and individuals within the club very dear.

Personally, I don't give a toss about the banter, though I am sure that some could offer far more if they were positive and creative instead of aiming cheap shots. However, some of the words used in the last few day concerning local members of the community had the ability to bring the club down very quickly. We are trying to do the right things for the club by gaining our own ground for the future. Not only would we lose all that opportunity if the planning application when resubmitted turned to ratsh!t. More importantly the few people running the club would be forced away. They can not risk their homelife and livlihoods due to some rash opinions expressed on a forum.

wise words mr horse and indeed I am sure that I speak for all footie folk when I say that we hope your new ground application is succesful....in due course I think that you may well find the good supporters of hx assisting you in those worthy endeavours...

that does not however really shed any light on these censorship matters...it is a dramatic move indeed to deprive a fan base of its forum....

goodness me..are we to believe that the decision to give you a new and long overdue home will rest on an anonmymous post on a forum early one morning...

'could the honourable member for harold hill please give the house the decision regarding romford football club's new ground application'

'thank you mr speaker, I have decided to turn it down as one of their anonymous fans referred to me as a tory tw@t on a forum'

Are Romford trying to detach themselves from the ESL league then?! This is terrible news?!

Unless Zody has gone too I wish you all the best then!

On a serious matter, it is sad to see that it has had to come to this. Romford officials, fans, players, or anyone associated with the football club will have their own views on the matter, but from a neutral fans point of view (or rival fans ), I dont think we can understand the reasons for closing the forum.

If you didnt want personal things like this posted on the forum, then why post it?!

If someone else posted it, why bother replying?!

It all sounds a little bizarre to me. I guess we will have to watch this space to find out the next episode.....

Despite being absent from the Romford FC Forum for a while, I am disappointed that the decision has had to be taken to close it (not by me, I hasten to add - I am not, as some people believe, Boro Admin!).

But Horse has got it exactly right - the example of Enfield Town has been quoted and, to my knowledge, they are not the only Club to have been on the wrong end of litigation over something that appeared on "their" Forum, something that Romford FC and it's Officers can ill afford to have happen.

I am no expert on the legalities of who can be held responsible for what an individual choses to post on a Forum such as this but, if that Forum is moderated by a Club officer then surely it follows that the Club carries a responsibility for what stays on the Forum and for how long. One reason that I stopped being "Boro Admin" a while back was that I was not able to access the Forum whilst I was at work, meaning that if an "inappropriate" item was posted in the morning, it would have to stay visible all day before I could do anything about it, possibly putting the Club into a position where action could be taken against it for allowing the post to remain on the Forum. (Unc - I remember your good self mentioning a while ago something about how long a post could reasonably stay "visible" before it could be construed as "libellous" - maybe you could enlighten us?).

The opening post of this thread from Boro Admin invites any of our regular contributors to re-open a Romford Supporters' Forum under independant moderation - so, why not? Using the example of Enfield Town again, that's exactly what has happened there. Anyone interested in doing so should, perhaps, PM the "Not The ETFC" moderator to find out exactly what it involves and where any liability might rest in the event of "inappropriate" messages appearing.

I truly find this nonsensical, as what happens then if any offensive or litigious remarks are made on the ESL site, but still apertaining to RFC?

Who then is deemed the guilty party. The ESL moderator, RFC or the postee??

I personally think that quotes like '24 hour policing' and taking the thing off in the first place, is not only childish, but makes us look a total laughing stock...

Some people do go over the top (Guilty as charged at times), but can somebody explain in simplistic terms what was the straw that broke the camels back?
