a quick reflection on tonight

Uncle Urchin

Sorry to say this, but I thought Jordan played his worst game of this season, and maybe should have been subbed, instead of Luke. He's been so assured and composed in previous matches, and last night seemed to lose concentration at times.

Our lads looked tired with about 20 minutes to go...and saturday's match may have taken a bit out of the lads.

Danny's goal was cracking, and probably the most difficult shot of the evening. Irony was that he put that one away, when all our other, easier shots at goal were skied.

Stansted's #7, Chris Nolan I think, (Oompaloompah) gave us as much trouble as the first time we played them. Tricky little player. Played well.

I think that we'll learn from this game, and I reckon our boys will be disappointed to have squandered so many chances.

Unlucky, J Lo and the lads.

Onwards and upwards.

fair comments but lets get it into perspective...we had 70% of the posession last night and at least 20 goal chances..

fair play to stansted ..they had 3 atempts and scored 2...both defensive errors and schoolboy ones at that...I also prefer 4-4-2 but the 3-4-3 formation workled against a main contender for the title on saturday and in my opinion (now I have had a chance to cogitate on the events of last evening) worked well enough last night..

saturday we kept a midfielder in a holding position and didn't concede...last night we gambled on getting a goal tally and came unstuck...it happens but last night we could have easily have scored 6/7 goals....

I agree with most of this unc, but I've felt that the 3 centre backs don't work well together and even on Saturday whilst we looked more assured, that the formation didn't particularly suit us. OK, it worked against a stronger team, but I'm not sure it's appreciated by the players.

We could have scored 6 or 7 but the strikers seemed to get in each others way, whereas there is a telepathy between Billy and Dan that they each know where they need to be to receive the goal scoring passes.

Defensively any team with speedy wingers will attack us down the flanks as our wide midfielders have a tendency to attack and occasionally neglect defensive responsibilities.

Saying all this, I know we'll bounce back and sometimes a good kick up the proverbials is not a bad thing. And come what may there will be a procession of cars/taxis to the Concord residence to see us back to winning ways.

>>>there was a debate about the ref blowing the whistle after the kick was taken

The whistle went a fraction after the kick was taken. There is a very old saying "play to the whistle" - the only logical and correct decision was to order a re-take.

I was amazed when the goal stood, as quite clearly the whistle had gone - after the kick was taken and at least three seconds before the ball went into the net - Urchins defence stood still, and I am not in the least bit surprised.

A reflection on the night's events?

I deliberately gave myself a few hours to ponder before making comment.

A potential banana skin it turned out to be, yes we were all over them and yes they only had two shots of note, football is like that, the 1980 Cup Final saw the Irons grab an early one and then were pushed back on their heels for the rest of the match. In effect it was the same principle last night albeit that we did score but of course a mixup, and that's all it was straight after we scored, ruined the day.

Naturally the same lineup played because they had won a good three points on Saturday.

We have many other options of course and I'm sure the JAPS will be working on one or two of them before Saturday.

Must mention Tiffs, tireless throughout, also Nicky played probably his best game for us, well done mate.

Good to see the Dogger Bank crew from Crouchland, he did get two on Saturday I'm sure. Thanks lads for the entrance money and funds deposited for refreshments et al..

We now go to Canvey on Saturday fully determined to make up for yesterday so let's see if we fans can turn iy into a virtual home match.

Make a note Thames Road Canvey.

See you there.

Luke Longman should take one or two or three of four games on the bench, Ball should start and Heale in the middle like Saturday. Also, Holland/Drake to start.

Nah, Billy Drake is great to bring on when you need an injection of pace. He terrifies defences and bearing in mind fitness levels in the ESL aren't great, he's a super sub in the making. I disagree with leaving Luke out, he needs games to get to full match fitness and no one could doubt his dead ball skills. As for Danny Heale down the middle: He's our most consistent finisher and needs to be on the left, not wide, kind of centre left, but definitely forward. He holds the ball well and his finishing is deadly. Key goals against Cogenhoe, Barkingside and Stansted are proof.

He's my player of the season so far. So there.

re formation I overheard an interesting conversation between 2 "senior" players in the car park after the game that went something like "the formation is fecking [****!!****],whats the point of having loads of forwards and no-one in midfield?" the response being "yeah it's a load of bollox"

Its all goin pete tong he he he.One defeat and the svens are out.Danny Heale, top scorer,i think, needs to play up front with a.n.other.Do`nt move your main goal scorer around to accomadate others. If you play wingbacks they need to have an effect on the game,ie crosses in the box and making runs in behind their opponents.

Luke Longman could be a good player if he would:

(i) pass the ball on the floor (ii) not do as many long ball in the air that go no where as for every 1 good ball he plays, 3 go to the other team

teepee old son...you are way out of line.....if you are gonna repeat what you 'supposedly' heard our players say on a public forum I am gonna take exception to it...

we enjoy a very good and close relationship with our players interacting with our fans but if our players are going to be quoted on open forum then they are likely not gonna be so accomodating in the future in talking to our fans.....

not good son...not good... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Me too, dressing room talk should be kept to dressing room and not quoted on forums, our players are a good bunch and that goes without question. I've seen many players come and go through this club and they've always had a good relationship with me and the rest of the fans, it's one of the great assets of our club, long may it continue.

this club, since i have been coming on the forum has always supported the players,in the last 2-3 weeks we have gone out the fa vase and lost a league match, but if we had of gone 1-0 up on tuesday we would of won by a clear margine, the fact of the matter is that stansted scored first and we was always chasing the game, which leaves you open at the back, stansted had a bit of pace and exploited us well, saturday is an important match as we need to get straight back to winning ways, and once we have won saturday we have romford away next saturday, and we need to be focused for that so we can use the bragging rights for the borough

pull together urchins

we can't win them all,but we usually win most!!
