Gazza leaves Kettering

Recommended Posts

I hate the way each time Gazza joins a new club it's given sober (pun intended) news reportage as if he's going to be a good thing for the club.

They did it with Boston (big interviews everywhere) and now after several fiascos Kettering took him on (big interviews everywhere)and the predictable happens.

In 39 days of him being in charge, the owner of Kettering intimates Gazza was drunk on 37 of them.

Sometimes you want to laugh but I happen to have a deep grievance against Boston and now hate Gazza due to this taint.

When they bury Gazza will it be a national occassion like George Best?

It was perfectly obvious to anyone with any basic knowledge of Non League Football that Gascoigne's involvement with Kettering Town would end in tears within a couple of months.

Quite apart from his alleged difficulties with alchohol, what did he think that the management of a Non Leaguue football club entails? Switching on the 'holiday' lights if the town centre? Pick the team, stand in the technical area and shout & swear a lot? If only it were that simple, most of us would be qualified to have a go.

The committed romantic might have hoped for better and, in fairness, any fan of The Poppies would probably keep fears for the future to his or herself.

'Hate' is a little strong, TC. It's all very sad, however obvious that it would end within a few weeks.

Whatever, Tommy. I have no real knowledge of the Boston thing so I will defer to yours.

Anyway. How are things North of the Border? Is Graham Roberts the manager at Falkirk? Is he still commuting to and from the Soccer School in Spain. He did that for a couple of months during the fiasco of his tenure of the hot-seat at Braintree Town. Remarkable when you come to think of it. Flying in and out of Stansted International Airport to be met by a chauffeur-driven limo and whisked to a suite at the Braintree Hilton, twice each week. Think of the air miles. A Non League football club! Remarkable, really. Does he speak with nostalgia of his time with The Mighty Iron?

It didn't last, of course. It lasted longer than Gazza, mind. He was replaced by Bjorn Borg. Not Gazza at Kettering, Roberts at Braintree.

And what about our former lad, Daniel McBreen?

Give us some news, old chap.

Now you mention it he probsbly did have a wee trundle about, he sometimes comes on as sub in the last fifteen minutes so would have got himself 'match-fit' for that. Most of the time though I expect he was sitting under a pile of coats dreaming of the Aussie sunshine.

Of course McBreen scored our equalizer against Rangers in our last meeting, it's apity he wasn't allowed on to score the winner on Saturday.
