Reserves V Salisbury

The reserves made the long trip to Salisbury on Saturday for the top-of-the-table clash, only to get beaten 2 - 0. The team is unrecognisable from the early season line-up, and included newcomers Mark Aylett and Andrew Chapman. Late withdrawals meant that WEFC took only 12 players which meant Eugene and Gary were on the bench. The first half was full of good football from both sides with Walsh and Chapman dictating things from centre-midfield, and Paul Dirou outstanding in a solid back-four. In the second half, WEFC didn't really reproduce their neat passing of the first half, and the game looked set for a 0-0 result until a horrible individual error gave Salisbury an easy goal. WEFC had a couple of chances to get back in it, but a second error near the end tied the game up for the home team. Disappointing result, but many positives from the first half performance.

Gardiner; Elford; Dirou; Turner (Hayes 70); Woodcraft; Blatchford; Walsh; Chapman; Case; Aylett; Morris. Subs unused : Woodcraft; Spellman

The possible reason for drop outs could be that certain players are signed on for local leagues and have only been expected to play for WEFC ressies on a wednesday,Spital were without a keeper as Ian Gardner played for the ressies, the same could happen for the return fixture, cant just expect them to ignore a local fixture for an away day of two hours travelling each way. Leaving at miday and late back and paying their own way.Why were there no first teamers involved to give them match fittness after all they have a squade of 20 plus.

Shame but all credit to the managers for being subs again its a Bit much when DC has to come on as sub when the club has an abundance of players.

no wonder they are inconsistant they dont play often enough together to many long gaps between games, training is for fitness and practicing moves,if there are then drop outs what can we expect, their next game is in mid January 06.its a shame as they looked good on the odd occassion i saw them play. I read that Ian Gardner plays in goal for Spital FC on saturdays,is there no cover on the bench if Drake gets injured as Stats say only one keeper registered for 1st team yet Gardiner has been with the club for some time and never let them down. Is this another promising lad we may loose if not encouraged.
