Seats in the Plough End

Confirmed on the official site. I thought there was a plan for some seats with terracing behind but reading the press release it will be all seats! Not happy with that at all

Looks like the club haven't much option, though. Why go down a route that would entail more financial outlay, possibly at the expense of the playing budget, for perhaps a couple of seasons worth of slightly improved atmosphere? If we were to get relegated as a result of having no money, the atmosphere would be crap in the lower divisions anyway!!

Better to think long-term and hope the new stadium is three-five years away, rather than 7-10.

On the face of it, I personally don't have an issue with the Northfleet end of the ground being all-seated. That is however unless the club use it as another excuse to further increase admission charges. Which would to be highly likely as it already costs more to sit in the main stand.

If that was to happen then whilst the Plough Stand would no doubt look good, it would be almost totally void of supporters.

Gutted, absolutely gutted. That place is the heart of the atmosphere on match days, what do we do now? People have said they won't come anymore because they can't stand behind the goal; also others won't come because they don't want to stand near the drum.

What shall we do now?

Anyone who went to Aldershot will see what an Atmosphere was, not to overstate a point; will have seen what an atmosphere is. Apart from the Champions League games and Man Utd the Aldershot atmosphere was louder than any I experienced last season. I'm talking continuing noise, not just a sudden outburst when the steward goes and gets his tea.

So then the Aldershot atmosphere is what we need to reach if we are achieving success. How do we do it? No one thing can be discarded, we must assess every option.

First off can I say to those that sing GET RID OF THE ANTI CANVEY SONGS WHEN WERE NOT PLAYING CANVEY - THEY ARE PATHETIC. Sorry bringing up C****** again but they never sing about The Arsenal, Spurs, Man Utd, West Ham or Leeds unless the two teams are battling it out on the pitch. From time to time they did sing songs containing these teams in there lyrics but only when saying how proud they are with their own teams. I'm telling you now get rid of the drum and people will be more willing to sing.

What about getting rid of the drum? Like I have said before no one thing should be disregarded and it is only an idea. Could be worth a trial against one of the lesser teams we are playing. 30 people singing near a drum doesn't make it sound like 100 people singing near a drum it just sounds like 30 people singing near a drum.

And what about where to put the drum now if we do keep it? I can think of five obvious places but all are without cover.

The obvious place is keeping it where it is and everyone will have to just live with it.

The second one is the side of the Stonebridge Road side down near the Swanscombe end. Not always open so not always possible but when it is you could have good banter with the away fans.

The third one is the other side of the Stonebridge Road side on the other side of the shop.

The fourth one is they can have the seats when they open up. Where does it say that they have to sit in them?

Anyway what do you think?

I agree that the club appear to have had no choice in this and Brian doesn't seem very happy to have to go down this route. The sad thing is that it will do nothing for the atmosphere at Stonebridge Road which I think will become even more sterile than it is at the moment.

Either live with it.....or more likely not bother to go to games anymore.

I'd ban it and most of the childish, and sometimes obscene singing that goes along with it. Singing to support your team does not have to include f..ing this and f...ing that.

No wonder parents are reluctant to take their children to games.

Why couldn't they fix the 513 seats at the Swanscombe end - Scallingham have done that. Then we can reterrace a couple of rows at the Northfleet end. Presto - everyone is happy.

But didn't they rule that out because then they'd have to pay for seats as well as reterracing at considerably higher cost?

The statement says 'we need 1000 seats under cover'. So I guess if we stuck the seats on the Swanscombe end terrace we would have to put a roof on it as well...and still have to pay to reterrace the Plough end

I agree with some of the comments about the drum.

Before the drum, me and a few others used to make a point of trying to start of songs, even getting some going at a friendly with an attendance of only 100.

Now, it seems that you can only start a song if it is accompanied by a drum.

I also agree with the comments regarding the "childish, and sometimes obscene singing that goes along with it" Doesn't really encourage other to join in does it?

Yup, too much drumming, too much swearing, too much seating.......

If only we had too much passing on the grass instead of too much passing high in the air !

and boys .... no singing tomorrow that eludes to cockling, oriental gentlemen nor high tides .... that would be too much sick singing wouldn't it ?

Drum - Agree and Disagree. we just need more singers with or without the drum we need more singers, the drum is an excellent 'aid' that is all!

Seating - well it will keep the same people i have mentioned away and will no doubt deter more of us that have been hanging on in hope of getting our 'home' back!

I am bringing a couple of newbies again tmw which i did 5 years ago, they still turn up so hopefully these will come back for more!!
