The Play-offs-reality or pipe(r)dream

I disagree with the statement that we are a conference south club. I cannot come to terms with that. With the crowd potential, new stadia/commercial developement potential we should/will have the financial clout to push our way into the football league without stretching ourselves to the point of collapse and without having to rely on the sugar daddies of teams such as Hornchurch. The developments will allow the club to offer more opportunities to potential sponsors and will give a strong platform should one person( a Dave Whelan type/more involved Mitchell) want to take the club that extra yard. The potential is HERE,lets tap it.Upwards and Onwards.

To throw my lot in, I dont expect relegation or a play-off place. Its great that Margate got a win against the league leaders but lets not get ahead of ourselves. The team is still in a state of flux and a settled side hasnt been reached yet. If we can get through Christmas without any serious problems maybe Margate could make play-offs. I like suprizes.

But we need the crowds in. Ill keep writing the home previews for Thanet Life along with the Christmas write up but we all need to get together and get those posters out. How are things going with them? Any black spots that I can help out with? I know David Payne is able to get posters to Broadstairs, is Westgate and Birchington covered? If there are some black spots there Ill help out.

What we don't know of course is the length of contracts(if any are on contracts) of the current squad.

Assuming that play-offs are a 'step too far', what we dont want is for CK to have to start squad building again all through the summer.

It is always noticeable how the teams getting off to the best starts are those who have minimum summmer disruption.

What a difference 6 more points at start of season would have made to our current position.

AS a post above also states, you must always try and maximise current opportunities(for promotion) as they may not come around again.

It looks as though Dover and possibly even Ramsgate will be promoted.

All good Kentish fun, but in reality additional pressure as there are then more Kent clubs fighting for promotion/kudos/ publicity and taking points off each other(we always are rubbish in local derbies in the games that matter in the league).

We talk of our infrastructure being better, but in fairness so is Dovers,so again it makes it harder again next season .

so much easier to go down than up -look at last year !!

Agee with MichaelMichael IF we do not get to a playoff position this season it will be more difficult holding on to any decent players we have as they always seem to want to go to a more succesful club. Whether it works out for them is neither here nor there. LOyalty among players is a rairity. We seem to be too far ot to atract too many good players/ If Dover and Ramsgate get promoted it will be even more difficult as they will also be trying to atract abetter quality of player which might have come to us at Margate.

Mr Maskell,do not take anything away from the players who turned out last saterday, they are capable of taking on and beating the majority of teams in this league. we now have the basis of a very good side,a team that can compete. To be great at this level,a cut above the rest the team needs to be and will be tweaked. I am laying my reputation (for what ever it is worth) on the line and saying by the start of next season we will be in the conf south and in our new home.Remember when one day when you take your seat amongst those that have failed us so badly, that those who elect you, will expect to see progress, not to be left,as this area as been to stagnate and try to live off past glories. They expect to see the promises that slip like runny sewage of the tongues of most politicians delivered. This goes for the club as well,we cannot accept what was,as good as it was, it is in the past.Know we look forward and want more and better. And it will be. upwards and onwards.

Just seen the latest score.

As my opening post said at the bottom,

I guess my optimism will just look stupid come 3.30 pm on saturday.

still if we beat Heybridge, we are back on track ,and it remains mathematically possible !!

If! If! If! If!. If we got a settled side and didnt play Standen we might win ANOTHER game. Dont know if he's playing but without him we play better and keep a better shape. Will be interesting to see if he has been included in the team today. If the team is the same as last week,as it should be then I am mightily disappointed & an apology from me will go to Standen. If its changed from last week then some questions have to be asked as to why.

"I started off thinking it was a piperdream, but find myself thinking it could just happen.

For once, we need a 6 point Xmas.We always seem to [****!!****] up over the bank holidays.

Or will this post just look stupid come saturday at 3.30pm."

I think you have already answered your own post michael! A great shame after it looked like our season was finally starting to gather some momentum. Hard to believe it was the same team who beat the league leaders last week. Our away record has been awful so far but we have the chance to change that around quickly with a win at Heybridge on Tuesday.
