Newall axed as Firs Park boss

DIVISION three basement club East Stirlingshire parted company with manager Dennis Newall last night (Wednesday).

The gaffer who had been in charge for the last 19 months was told his time was up in a phone call from club secretary Les Thomson.

A stunned Newall insisted that despite a poor run of results, culminating in Monday night's Scottish Cup exit at the hands of a Stenhousemuir side reduced to nine men, he had "no idea" the axe was about to fall.

Newall, who was unique in Scottish senior football due to the fact he was never paid, said: "I thought I was here for the long haul to improve results.

"But in a short and straight to the point phone call from the secretary today the club has decided it no longer requires my services."
