Slough Town v Walton & Hersham MATCH THREAD

A tale of missed chances by us, taken chances by them and a team that wanted it a little bit more.

If we'd have had 11 Michael Alexis' out there today, we wouldn't have lost. He didn't deserve to be on the losing side today as I told his father on the way out.

A couple of thoughts from the game having watched most of it from the opposite end.

Woody is not a left back and never will be.

Masters needs to communicate with his defenders more often.

When he does shout for the ball to be cleared, the defenders need to listen and clear it.

i have few problems with the overall performance from most players today, just that of the manager mostly, which is a rarity i must admit before opti pounces.

it was obvious to all that matt seedal, as good as he can be, was not performing today, and should have been replaced at half time or by 60mins at the very latest in order to try another method of attack, he also should not have taken off harris he was one of our best players on the pitch.

thought alexis, mccleary and harris played well, and avery had a decent game. but woody does not look comfortable at the back, im sure if we continue to play him there he will learn (because he is a better defender than mccleary would be down that side).

hodges, for the second game in a row, looked quieter than his usual self but still managed a few chances which should have been taken, but you cant really expect him to save us every time.

weve got some stuff we can work on i agree with gary we did look comfortable, but we need to take our chances, we had several and took none, w&h had only a few, and took 2.

come on the rebels for monday

Hodgey should have had a hat-trick first-half. One header from a McCleary cross, a free-header from a Chopper cross that you would have put your house on him scoring and then missing a one-on-one with the keeper.

Second-half we were not at the races. They seemed to 'want' it more than we did. Tough in the tackle and more energetic around the pitch.

First goal was pathetic. Just a long ball down the pitch that all that needed doing was a centre back to be dominant head out. Warning signs were there tough as five minutes earlier there was a keeper's kick that the two centre back's just decided to turn their backs and run backwards - not facing the ball, when all that was needed was an easy header.

Alexis started brightly, but faded. Thought his use of the ball was not as good as it normally is, but his workrate is getting a lot better.

Seedel is clearly lacking form and is getting pushed off the ball far too easily for my liking. Seemed a lot stronger than that last season. We really missed Brooks movement today

Avery worried me today a bit. Not commanding enough against the three strikers they played, and his kicking of the football seems strange. He's a right footed player and does everything with his left foot(?) Does not seem to strike the ball cleanly when he kicks it all all with either foot, and tends to slice it out of play a lot of the time.

Thought Chopper was our best player until he understandably got knackered second half. Thought Eddie would have goine for it at 2 down and got Josh Millar on and gone three-up front as their boys at the back seemed fine with the physical stuff. Would have been interesting to see if they would have liked it if we had the pace of Millar up-front for longer than he was actually on.

Disappointing today, although they were well organised they were not one of the better sides we have played this season. Don't get me wrong they totally deserved their win, but we really should be beating the likes of Walton.

Chris, I don't think Walton deserved to win - we were all over them in the first half, and if Hodges had been on the form he was last Saturday we would have had a couple of goals before the break.

For an ex marine Seedel was pushed off the ball and lost challenges too easily, and i would have put Josh Miller on a bit earlier.

I thought that Seedal made most of his luck (mainly bad). Most of the time if he lost the ball, or a pass to him was slightly away from him, he just shrugged and let the opp take it, without a fight.

When we play well we do so by defending from the front, giving our defence a chance to get into position.

I also thought that we had no wing play, whenever we had a chance to put a runner wide, the ball came back into the crowd in the middle.

That was my penny's worth on the game, now...

COME ON REBELS we know you can do it, remember Fisher.

Agree with Ian, Josh Miller should have started (or at leats on at 1/2 time) We should have scored in the 1st half, but we did play poorly in the second; they deserved the win, and two great goals. If we play like we did in the 2nd half consistently i think we will be challenging our rivals for last place.
