It actually just clipped the post.

Still, will be there for the Morcambe game - another 3 good points will cement our mid table position in readiness for a late surge towards the play offs.

Presumably people are only joking when they mention the Fleet and play-offs in the same breath. Two victories against sides below us in the table, both of which included rather desperate periods of play in the second half which could easily have led to points being dropped, is hardly evidence that we'll be good enough for a play-off charge. As ever, a mid-table finish is the very most I'm expecting. Yesterday, Jukebox taking the ball towards the corner to wind down the clock on one of our few forays forward in the second half, after such a dominant first half, left a sour taste - it should never have got to that stage. Still, these are the games in which we need to pick up points, and we delivered in this respect.

Encouraging performances from Coleman, who took his goal, only really a half-chance at best, really well and showed a willingness to fight for the ball at times when the service evaporated, Bradley Johnson, and Ross (as usual) in particular. Brett Johnson played perfectly well, but why Liam felt the need to start him at left-back when we have Skins, Jacko and Glozier for that position seemed pretty mystifying. Admittedly, his alleged defensive versitality would be useful if injuries kick in, but it's hard to know why Skins and Jacko were out of favour yesterday.

It would also be fascinating to know how Sodje has gone from being the main man against York to frozen out in the space of only a few weeks. If Coleman plays for the rest of his loan period like he did yesterday, it would be brilliant, but there's a short-termism about this. Sodje, on the other hand, may well have been able to stay with us for the season.

Like so many, I was initially impressed by Sodje. The arrangement, seemed to suit both us and Charlton given the fact that Sodje wasn't costing the club a penny.

On the other hand, is it in the long term interest of the Club to be developing other Clubs players when we have young players of our own emerging. Sodje playing at the expense of Luke Moore doesn't seem like a sensible option.

True, but that comes back to the eternal balancing act between short-term success and long-term gain. What you say would make perfect sense if Luke Moore had the potential of Sodje, which, from what we've seen of the two players so far, doesn't seem to be the case. In my view, a season-long loan is a sufficiently long-term arrangement to offset the loss of development of potential talent contracted to the club. For instance, while Coleman played very well on Saturday, he'll probably be gone before the end of the calendar year, leaving us with the need to plug the gap again - something that wouldn't be so necessary with Sodje present.

There is also a benefit to keeping in with the big boys up the road in that Charlton have a constant supply of quality youngsters coming through their youth system, so while an individual like Sodje might be seen as short term the process of taking a promising youngster from Charlton on work experience doesn't have to be.

Obviously that only works for either side if the youngster plays in the first team.

It seems that you are in the minority, with SG currently leading the poll.

Fair point. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> It might have been helpful if Liam had mentioned it in his post-match interview for example though.
