George Best

It is with great sadness that I have decided to start a thread to commemorate the career of one of the greatest footballers that ever lived...George Best.

Sadly the announcement of George's death was made earlier this afternoon.

The word legend is a word that is very much over used, but George was a true legend.

Thanks for the memories George.

Totally agree. The finest player I ever had the privalege to watch, although there are some total pratts on confguide who seem determined to use his problems in later life to ignore the fact that he was a genius. I can't think of a single player in the game today who is fit to lace his boots. RIP

Absolutely agree 100% It is a sad day for everyone who loves the game of football.

Yes he had his problems off the field but that doesn't take away the fact that he was one of the true greats of the game.

A true Superstar!

I was lucky enough to see him playing when he was at Fulham and even at half pace he did things with a football others could only dream about.

Unfortunatly Andy I was twenty something and yes it wasn't the easiest journey especially if Chelsea were also at home. You could guarantee it would all kick off and a tube train would get trashed. Best and Marsh took turns to give exibitions that day, beating a player and then going back and beating him again then a bit of ball juggling and a backheal to the other one who would then take over. Oh yea and I think they scored four goals as well <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

In 1971, I had the pleasure of witnessing the last time the famous combination BEST, LAW & CHARLTON scored in a game. It was the day Man Utd beat the Terriers 1-3 at our old L**ds Road ground.

For me, Georgie Best was the greatest player I've ever seen play live! I also saw Denis Law (The Law-Man & KING) play in the Might Blue n White stripes, which was a real privilage but Georgie was without doubt the greatest player of ALL TIME!

RIP Georgie!

Saw George at Highbury in about 1969 at his peak, Arsenal 2 Man Utd 2. Stunning game, watched from the front of the North Bank.

George hit the bar from 20 yards with an overhead scissors kick!!

63,000 fans applauded as one and the Arsenal crowd behind chanted "nice one, Georgie, nice one son" in unison.

A real priveledge to be there.
