Once you choose to place in the public domain what is basically an opinion, the copyright you have is so limited as to be unenforceable.

In effect, simply by reporting that one fan felt "blah blah blah etc" the paper overcomes all possible copyright issues.

At least you can be glad that your views are considered siginificant enough for the paper to feel they deserve an additional audience!

Books and newspapers are all protected by copyright yet when they are published they are put into the public domain. However, it would be entirely pointless in most cases to bring an action as there is not quantifiable damage.
