Making plenty of noise

Recommended Posts

Firstly, sincere congratulations to the band of supporters who congregate around the drummer boy & make one hell of a racket. As Andy commented this was always alien to the Fleet - we were always a bit on the timid side - now we must rate as one of the noisiest band of supporters in the Conference.

As one reasonably advanced in years myself, I must point out that, with a few honourable exceptions, the majority of this extremely vocal group are amongst our younger supporters. And they never turn negative. On Saturday, when we were defending like a load of pants, the old codgers were moaning away, but drummer boy and his crew kept going, willing the team to pull it round - and to be honest they did come agonisingly close before that killer penalty. Would the fight back have been so intense without the support? Personally, I think the game would have fizzled out.

You've managed very well on the keep it loud & simple front, boys, but a couple of suggestions for new 'songs' from 'an old hand'

Why not turn around the accusations that we're a long ball team with an ironic 'acceptance' of the charge, as in:

"Long ball, we only play long ball, we only play long ball, we only play long ball..." (to the tune of 'Blue Moon') and sung when we've just put together a great move. We could follow this up with;

"One nil to the Route One boys..." when we take the lead. And to send the Margate fans home on Saturday, how about:

"Farewell to the Seaside Boys..."

Just suggestions from an old timer. Well done again to the relatively 'new' boys in the covered end.

Cheers, this season myself and a couple of others have tagged on to the drummer boy and are now fully a part of the set up. My favourite has to be singing andy fords red and white army constantly for a whole half! Its brilliant that we can keep it going, even when 3-1 down at home.

I think that we could take your new options on board, as they are good variations and will hopefully get some more crowd interested. I have also always insisted in no Negativity towards our players, as they are only part time and try their best every game.

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/bounceblue.gif" alt="" /> Great f****g attitude fella! ! ! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/bounceblue.gif" alt="" />

It really gets my back up when "fans" target individual players with their (misguided)"opinions" - especially when they are as audible for those on the pitch as they are for us.

They DO try their best in games (let's face it, Andy wouldn't keep them on board if they didn't) and if it's up to the players to prolong our stay in the conference for as long as possible, then it's down to us to keep up the tempo and the noise and really start to become a thorn in the side of some of these "bigger" clubs.

We're a big club............ it's just that no-one else knows it yet!

If its up to the players to keep us in the conference and enjoying every minute, then its up to us to keep their heads up and help them in everyway to play well. Pure encouragment actually keeps the crowd happy aswell. If one person moans thats it all hell breaks loose, keep it like sat against Leigh and the lads will do well, they just had an off day. They need our support, if we can get everyone singing and shouting positively who knows what this club can achieve. Team spirit in the stands thats what i say!!

Incidentally, why can we still hear anti C****y songs on the terraces?

It's not as if we still sing about Shittingbourne, or Dartford for that matter. Why? you may ask....

Because these teams are irrelevent to us now....

CI? Left behind.

The Shits? Ditto.

Dartford? We're flatmates now (not strictly saying we HAVE to get on!)

Dover? Missed that opportunity as we switched leagues.

Hmmmmm........can you tell who it is yet.....?! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/upyours.gif" alt="" />

Nice to see the response in this thread. I started coming to the Fleet with my dad in 1971 & we were always aware of 3 things:

1. The undoubted wit of some of the crowd.

2. The self destrucive criticism which took over only too easily.

3. The lack of any sustained, orchestrated, positive support.

Unfortunately, my old man isn't around any more, but if he was I know he'd be amazed at the change in atmosphere (as well as in the quality of the football!)

So, keep it up boys. And keep to the high standards you've set so far: always positive (even if we are playing pants); always cheerful (even if we're getting hammered & the ref's Saddam Hussein's brother); never mindlessly unpleasant to the opposition players and supporters - wittily insulting, yes, but never nasty (even if their team make Mark Stimson & Adam Miller look like Bobby Charlton & Stanley Matthews); but above all, always, always, as noisy as Hell!

PS

A second 'verse' to my suggestion of "Farewell to the Seaside Boys" if we beat Margate on Saturday: " Take home your buckets & spades." (Possibly, "Go home with your buckets & spades" if this scans better out loud.)
