Game turned on a sending off after 31 minutes for a Wivenhoe centre back Stef Falla which I thought wasn't even a foul, let alone penalty & red card but luck seemed to go our way this evening with two penalty calls for handball turned down (one of which the linesman was flagging for apparently).

 

Competent display from the boys.

Two points about the report Gary. Firstly, Falla was sent off for mouthing at the ref after the penalty was given. Did not see who committed the foul but he was not disciplined in any way. Secondly, why does it state Wivenhoe scored from a Palmer own goal. Although he has proved he can score spectacular own goals already this season, even he would be hard pushed to do it while not even on the pitch. <img src="/forums/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" /> Never mind Gary, no-ones perfect. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/thefinger_red.gif" alt="" />

One final point, and I may be wrong on this one, when the lino was flagging, if it was for a penalty, surely he would have put his flag across his chest, the penalty signal. I believe he may well have been flagging for offside for when the ball was first crossed but the ref dismissed it when we cleared the ball. As I said I may be wrong but it just seemed the signal he was making was NOT for a penalty.

I spoke to the linesman during the second half who said he was flagging for a penalty for handball.

If that's correct then fair enough he should have kept flagging.

Agree with Radders, he should have at least halted play to see what the issue was.

 

Changed the own goal from Deano - that's now been removed and I've still not included anything for their two penalty appeals....

That limsman couldnt tell a corner from throw in. BUT if he was flagging for a penalty he shold have kept on flagging unless the ref told him not to.

Mind you the ref wasn't much better. Gave a lot our way though so as a result didn't get too much abuse!

I don't think the penalty was the turning point as such. In the opening half hour we were clearly the better side and I thought it was a question of when we scored not if. Whilst the pen and sending off obviously made life a lot easier we would have won anyway! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/yelrotflmao.gif" alt="" />
