What happened there?

How can a team that has been playing so well suddenly turn into a pile of rubbish? 1st half couldn't string a pass together and enfield got a goal from a corner. Half time the management made them stay out in the middle (probably a let off as a Calder/Borg rant would have singed a few ears) 2nd half put a bit more effort into it and were perhaps unlucky not to nick an equaliser when a DJ shot smashed into the Enfield keepers face.

It certainly was a bit of a shambles first half. Interesting to se Juho finally getting a start (anyone know what happened to ollie?) although he let himself down, he didnt seem to know if he was centre half or centre mid. Infact, first half what formation were we playing? whatever it was it wasnt working and their goal seemed a bit of a give away by us.

If anything good came of the first half it was that we went back to a back four and we did seem to create more, although most of the time we were opting to the long ball.

DJ and Mark G didnt deserve to be on the losing side tonight. Carths had a stinker and was no surprise to see him taken off. their number ten caused us all sorts of problems all night, and maybe highlights the fact that we are pretty slow (excluding kerrigan) at the back.

Not going to be too downbeat, we have slipped down the table but its all so tight that a few wins will see us back up there. Just a shame that after getting a good result against St albans we chuck this one away.

couple of other things: In Calders programme notes he refered to one individual having another poor game on sat. Anyone want to take a gues who? i cant really think of anyone that played badly enough to be singled out. carths hasnt been imposing himself as much recently but Calders note's implied that we would have won had this person played well. any thoughts as to who?

Finally, I was expecting the club to have something in the programme about Joe's departure but there was nothing. we have had the unnofficial reason given to us on this forum but like i said before, what about the fans with no pc? they all think he is still out on loan! Calder has his own coloumn why cant he use it with info rather than going over what we all saw for ourselves in the previous game?

Why does Calder never bring on a 3rd striker when we're chasing a game? I'm not suggesting we get reckless, but if he were to do an Arsene Wenger and bring on a 3rd/4th striker, maybe we'd sometimes get what we're looking for.

 

Instead, he sticks with 2 up front, sometimes doing a one for one swap.

 

And yes, I do appreciate that the midfield has a part to play too, but I can't see the harm on nights like tonight where we never looked that liekly to get one back.

Hey guys.... give us (Enfield) some credit.

 

You were 2nd in the league with a good home record. We matched you in every dept during the first half and scored with a great Dean Coppard header.

 

We were under the cosh during the 2nd period but defended resolutely and when you did get past our defence you couldn't find a way past Lionel Perez.

I "think" 1st half we tried to play 3 at the back with Juho in midfield.

 

Wouldn't be too proud of the fact you matched us first half Enfield, we were truely dire.

What happened to the walk over you lot was so sure of? I spoke to 2 of the "ricay" fans last night and said you lot would win 4/5 nil!!! Well I dont care how bad you lot played come on you even had the ref on your side, he let every elbow and late tackle from your boys go and pulled us up on every 50/50! Although you lot have two of non-league's best managers their I still think one of them should go, their is no way those two can work together! mark my words they hate each other down below but put on a good show! Just to add to that, what was up with your fans last night? I only hurd ONE small chant just after the second half started, a small "come on ricay" about three times and that was it to be fair we out shouted you lot and with only 15 fans that turned up!!!

A dire display from us last night.But even though we were total pants,we were unlucky not to get a draw,with their ex premier league keeper making a couple of top saves in the second half.DJ Campbell is a truely exciting talent,he looks like his got the all round game to be the best striker in the league if we can sign him permantely.A win on Saturday and a FA Cup first round tie will be the perfect tonic after last nights crapy result.Come on you blues!!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/let_it_all_out.gif" alt="" />

i think in the first 25/30 mins we were absolute sh*thouse. in fairness the management were trying to get the team moving but to no avail. enfield were cr*p as well and our marking for their goal was non existant almost unbelievable. i thought for the last 15 of the first half and for the second half we were the better side but once again failed to turn our advantage/possession into goals.

 

rantala got a run out first half but was strangely played in midfield wheareas penn was in defence. perhaps the upside is we played much better 2nd half with a back 4 and that this will continue on sat.

 

i would play a back 4 on sat and assuming everyone is fit would play willo n carthy in midfield leaving out brennan who needs to sharpen up in my opinion with fewings n dj up top. (roy banned but needs to sharpen up anyway).

 

we have to do better on saturday and hopefully we will do. lets hope this is a reminder to everyone that anything less than 100 % just aint acceptable.

 

there will be a lot of fans making a long journey sat so i just hope the players/staff etc are reading this and will get involved.

Why is it when you are beaten you say you played ***** (substitute any suitable adjective). You can only play as well as the opposition let you. Be gracious, concede that on the night (even with a lot of decisions in your favour) the team that wanted it most won. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wavey.gif" alt="" />

Bad result, poor game. If Enfeild were a snooker player they'd definately be a Cliff Thorburn or a Terry Griffiths! Not sure where you get this biased ref from. Missed a sure fire penalty in the first half and all your bookings were deserved. Of course we play [****!!****] when we lose, it's the only reason we do lose games?!!!

Well o.k what game did you watch??? Yes our players got booked, noone said anything about that! I will say though that the player who riped john morgan out from behind and didnt even get a talking to Should have been sent off!!! Two elbows he pulled up and done nothing, and as for the ref when down our end in the second half I shouted wheres your blue shirt? Under your black one? He said back and I quote "Oi son this is my team for the leauge" I rest my case thank you good day and thanks for three points!

Get a life. Any ref who isn't (or tries to be) impartial would be caught out. Okay the standard of officials ain't that good and may be getting worse but....

Mr Gazza, that was my point!!! he was a joke all night. What I was trying to put across was, that he gave almost everything "ricay's" way and when I said that to him, he said what he said and gave even more "ricay's" way! Why should a ref get worse just because someone get's on his back? He was a child lost in a mans world on that night!

From where I was standing he gave nothing ricky's way at all. I think from what we have seen here that once again we ended up with one of the many very poor officials in this league.

 

We have to look more at the fact that on the night we were extremely poor, and that the game plan didn't work (we were shut down on the wings) so we went back to long ball again, because we have no imagination. This combined with quite a number of people having "mares" we didn't stand much chance against an Enfield side who at least looked like they wanted to win it.

 

Anyone know what the possiblity of Lee Williams being back for Saturday is? I think we need him.

Not up front, as he is a midfielder and all. Given that we have been playing defenders there in recent games I feel we could do with him.

 

I have no issues with who is playing up front.
