In order that there is no misunderstanding between us, I am not joining the debate concerning the pecking order of various managers.

However, Zeal has asked a question and I will put forward an answer. Colin Lippiatt's points per game average is [approximately] 1.75 from 52, and Garry Hill's average is [approximately] 1.52 from around 60.

Always pleased to assist. That will be 150 guineas plus Value Added Tax. My fee account is in the post.

Hi Zealster.

It will have to be tomorrow as I have a 'table' [prepared by someone else, I hasten to add,] at home.

The ones in my head are Steve Castle with 0.64 points per game and Miguel De Souza with a rather inmpressive 3 from his one game at the helm.

How difficult can it be, for Heavens sake? You do it the Hill/Borg way, and pick the team, stand in the technical area and shout & swear a lot, or you do it the Colin Lippiatt way by picking the team, sitting in the dug-out thing and watching in silence. Throwing tea-cups in the dressing-room is optional, either way.

I think that we should make first prize in the Supporters Club raffle at the Boxing-Day game, "Manager for a Match". We could ask Colin to be the winner's assistant. Put the cones out, that sort of thing. And he should be secretly briefed to give hand signals to the lads to stick to 4-4-2 in case some lunatic wins and directs a 1-1-8 formation, say.

The points/game chart?

It's a good indication I suppose, as long as you've got 25+ games to get a decent average from.

I'll be interested to know whether Allan Cockram is higher than Garry Hill when it's comes to points/game average.

Allan Cockram was entertaining, same as Ossie Ardiles was at Spurs. But I don't think anyone would seriously consider Ardiles was a better manager than Burkinshaw.

By the same token, I can't believe that Cockram, entertaining though he was, had a better record than Garry Hill.

Eh?

It's not 'my' chart. It's a factual, statistical summary of the points per game of every manager in the whole, ever history of the Mighty Saints. It's been put together, collected and collated by someone other than moi. I wouldn't want to claim the credit for the labours of another. [The 150 guineas per question is another matter - and that's trade prices only available to special friends. It might go up to the retail price of 250 guineas if someone isn't careful!]

Manana.

Hi Zealster. I've been a bit busy today hence the lack of response to your earlier question. My remark was based performance from budget and not on points per game. I think Thornsey makes the same point above somewhere.

IE how much does it cost per point.

(We're estimating budgets of course!)

If we're doing this on an 'Average Points Per Game' basis, would you also have the approximate figures for Allan Cockram and John Mitchell, please?

Firstly, 'we' aren't doing anything. You have asked for the stats, and they are as follows:

Bob Dowie is in 4th spot with an average of 2.15 points from 20 games.
Sid Prosser is 6th with 1.79 points from 241 matches.
Colin Lippiatt comes in at 9th with 1.76 points from 42 matches.
John Mitchell is right behind in 10th with 1.73 from 258 games.
Alan Cockram is 12th with 1.65 from 95.
Garry Hill is 13th with 1.65 from 54.
Roberts & Cook are 16th with 1.56 points from 64.
Steve Cook is 18th with 1.37 from 38.
Kevin Mudd is 33rd with 1.06 from 32.
Steve Castle is 40th with 0.83 from 47 games.
Stuart Cash is 45th, and last, with 0 from 1.

That will be 1250 guineas plus VAT. My fee account's in the post.
